Irving Abramson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by VanInwegen-Kenny Inc Funeral Home - Wurtsboro on Dec. 23, 2025.
Irving Abramson, a retired plant layout clerk for Western Union in Mahwah, NJ, passed away peacefully at his home in Bloomingburg on Saturday, December 20, 2025. He was 99 years old.
The son of the late Meyer Abramson and Rose Cohen Abramson, he was born July 2, 1926 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Irving was a gifted athlete in his youth, earning medals in track and competing at Madison Square Garden.
A proud World War II veteran, he served honorably in the Philippines and Japan and remained deeply proud of his service throughout his life.
A lifelong New York Giants fan-always "Go Giants!"-he proudly passed that loyalty on to his family.
In the first half of his life, Irving was married to Helene, with whom he raised two sons during their 31 years of marriage. In the second half of his life, he found lasting love with Mary; together they raised and later adopted their grandson and shared a happy, devoted marriage of 38 years until his passing. He was deeply loved and will be remembered for his devotion to family, country, and life. His spirit lives on.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years: Mary Banick Abramson, at home; three sons: Douglas Abramson (Karen) of Poughkeepsie, Michael Abramson (Betty) of Middletown, Shawn Abramson (Debra) of Pine Bush; Grandson: Hunter; three step children and several Nieces and Nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 31 years: Helene Goldburg Abramson, and he was the last surviving member of his brothers Harold Abramson, Sidney Abramson and his sister Harriet Abramson Schwartz.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 26 from 10:00 to 11:30am at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with a funeral service starting at 11:30am. Burial with military honors will follow at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen.
