On the morning of August 27, 2025, the Lord our GOD, called home his beloved and faithful son Isaac Rutledge Sr; known affectionately to friends and family as just Ike.
Isaac was born on June 6, 1942, to the late Arlean (Rutledge) Anderson and the late Jerry Butler. He was born at home in Burgess, SC, delivered by midwife. He was one of two, Isaac Fred and Jacob Evan Rutledge, identical twins. Unfortunately, his twin died young and there was a mix-up by the midwife with the twins' names when the time came to prepare the death certificate and his twin was buried with his true name Jacob Evan Rutledge.
`He was educated and a graduate of the Horry County public school system in South Carolina. After graduating from high school, he drove a school bus for some time. He later moved to Philadelphia, PA to join his mother and older brother Earl Butler. He obtained work as a cement mason. He maintained this profession for 58 years from Jan 24,1967 until his retirement date June 1, 2004. He was a faithful member of the 2nd Mount Zion Baptist Church who attended Sunday school and Bible study in addition to regular services.
Sometime after arriving in Philadelphia, he met his late wife Rosalyn Ann (Brown) Rutledge. They married on February 14, 1969. Of their union they produced three children. He later fathered a 4th child not of their union. Through both good times and bad he did his best to be the best father he could be. He passed that love down to his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. After the loss of her father at a young age, he cared for and supported his granddaughter Shanika and her children until his passing.
He had a kind heart that he gave freely to those in need. He gave food and provided transportation for his friends, even when he was ravaged by cancer and in pain. He was known for lovingly giving people nicknames that made them smile and laugh.
Though his struggle at the end of his life was long, painful, and fearful at times Ike is now at peace and in pain no more. He was preceded in death by the many family members who loved and await him. His mother Arlean (Rutledge) Anderson, his father Jerry Butler, his older sister Barbara and her twin Nancy, his twin brother Jacob Evan (Isaac Fred) Rutledge, brother Jeff Anderson, and sister Paulette (Sissy Anderson) Evans, his wife Rosalyn Ann Rutledge and son James Roderick Rutledge.
He leaves behind to mourn and cherish his memory, his older brother Earl Butler (Jolene), younger brother Michael Anderson and sister Delores Sharpe-Mills (Ronnie). Three loving children Isaac Rutledge Jr., Deandrea Ovetta Shavers (Ralph Jr.) and Damon Myles, Eight grandchildren: Shanika (Chanda), Ceraysah, Le"Baron, Courtney, Ikeya, Jaelen, Quentin and Damani; 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
