Isabel T. Johnson, beloved mother, sister and aunt, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024, in Las Cruces, NM.
Isabel was born Isabel Torres in Alamogordo, New Mexico on July 30, 1930. She graduated from Alamogordo High School her and later obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from New Mexico State University. She enjoyed a career as a high school teacher at Alamogordo High School. After retirement, Isabel continued to live a full life, when she volunteered her time at the Alamogordo Senior Center and teaching Spanish to various groups.
Isabel is survived by her daughter, Amber Macias-Mayo of Albuquerque, NM, and grandsons, Armand Macias-Mayo and Devlin Mayo, her sister, Rachel T. Montoya-Rose of League City, Texas, as well as several nieces and one nephew. She is preceded in death by her parents Francisco and Isabel Torres, her husband, Edward H. Johnson, her sons, Arthur Macias and David Macias, and two sisters, Sara Fina Liston and Gloria Chapman.
A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held for Isabel on Thursday, August 8, 2024, with Rosary beginning at 10:15 a.m., and the Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Urn bearers Armand Macias-Mayo and Devlin Mayo carrying her to her final place of rest. She will rest in peace at the St. Jude’s Catholic Church Columbarium thereafter.
A reception will follow at the Marian Gathering Hall. The family welcomes all to join them in this celebration of Isabel’s life.
