Iva Marie Tehauno-Lopez
Marie was born on March 24, 1945, at the Kiowa Indian Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma. She was the first child of Vernon and Patsy Sankadota Tehauno. She left this world peacefully on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the age of 80 years.
Marie was named after her two aunts, Iva Mihecoby and Marie Tahbonemah. Marie was of the Kiowa and Comanche tribes of Oklahoma. On her Kiowa side, she was a descendant of Set'Tainte, Chief Satanta (White Bear). On her Comanche side, she was a descendant of Chief Ten Bears.
Marie was raised in Stecker, Oklahoma until the family relocated to Dallas in the 1950's. After high school she went on to get her nursing license and worked at Flow Memorial Hospital in Denton, Texas. She later worked for Cimarron Living Center in Lewisville, Texas where all the clients knew her by name. She was the type of person that worked all the time, including holidays. She eventually retired to enjoy the rest of her life with her family.
She was given the nickname "Teedoe" by her Comanche Grandma (Thurma Tehauno). That is what she was known by all of her life by her family and friends.
She went to many powwows in her lifetime. She always went through the arts and crafts vendors to see what she could find. She was part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Intertribal Association powwow committee.
Marie had three children, Robert Tehauno, Jennifer Pacheco, and Darryl Lopez. She had 6 siblings, 8 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren plus many adopted sisters, brothers, and grandchildren.
Her Kiowa grandparents were the late Clarence and Maggie Tainpeah Sankadota. Her Comanche grandparents were the late Reuben and Thurma Tahkofper Tehauno.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, sister (Carol Walker), brother (Ronald Tehauno), and granddaughter (Christina Tehauno-Lee).
