Ivan Benjamin Anemba Huskins, age 12 years, died at home peacefully in his family's loving arms on June 25, 2024 in Zionsville, IN. His suffering from myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and leukemia is finished.
Ivan was born on 12/23/2011 in Eldoret, Kenya, and named Ivan Macon Anemba at birth. Ivan was a rising 7th grader at New Augusta North Public Academy and attended Traders Point Christian Church Northwest. He is survived by his parents, Jordan and Abigail Huskins, and his siblings, Ian, Digory, and Roseanna Huskins; birth father Wilson Anzwen Anemba with siblings Ephancy Kathomi Anzwen, Krystal Sonia Anzwen and birth mother Romonah Okonji with siblings Fabian Okonji, Shania Elizabeth Okonda, Lucky Okonda. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents, Jon and Debi Huskins, his maternal grandparents, Terry and Margie Mortenson, his maternal great grandmother, Barbara "Grammy B" Barger, Grandmother "Shosho" Joan Lydia Kalani, as well as 9 aunts, 9 uncles, 21 cousins, and many friends and family both near to home, and across the globe.
Ivan has always been surrounded by love. He was treasured in his home, church, school, neighborhood, medical care and global communities. Ivan had an intensely brave heart, savvy sense of humor, quick wit, steady faith in Jesus, and contagious joy that bubbled up. He will forever be remembered as a courageous warrior who climbed so many mountains and overcame whatever bar was set before him. We have never met anyone braver and more resilient than Ivan. His soul was a deep well with seemingly infinite, unearthly capacity to love and compassionately care for others. Ivan was an avid sports fan, cheering on his Colts, Pacers, Fever, and Purdue Boilermakers. He played flag football, sang in choir, and played drums in middle school band-a natural expression of his innate steady nature. He loved farming, golfing, fishing, Xbox Madden, 2K Basketball and Farming Sim at clinic, playing Legos with brothers, summer camps at Camp Silver Moon and St. Florian Center, listening to his eclectic 300+-song Amazon playlist, dreaming about future travels, career and making a family business. Ivan's smile lit up every room he entered; he made friends easily and had a ninja skill of remembering the names and significant dates of everyone, their siblings/children and pets, as well as sports facts.
Though heartbroken, his family is full of hope, knowing he has a new body, at last dunking, running, jumping, diving, and is at home in peace with his Heavenly Father. Details on Ivan's celebration of life ceremony will be shared later in the summer. Thank you for your outpouring of love and care.
"Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen, just like He said!"-Luke 24:5-6
"Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also." John 14:1-3
In memory of Ivan, please consider making a donation to Fishback Creek Public Academy PTO, wherein we have created a memorial fund for students and staff from elementary and middle school to remember Ivan's contagious smile and beautiful life. I first met Ivan when he was about 2 and a half. I remember being captivated by his infectious smile, which grew even bigger when I greeted him with "Jambo". He seemed to be a wise old soul with memories and tenacity beyond his years as he embraced school and navigated the demands on his health. He brought joy with his presence.

Although our relationship was short I will truly miss Ivan coming to my clinic for his daily medication. He always had a story to tell or some with joke. His smile and loving personality was infectious and we bonded immediately. My prayers are with you all

My condolences to your family; Ivan was such a positive spirit, full of courage and strength. I know he will be missed, but his battle is over and he has won! I can picture him well and smiling next to his Savior, running and playing with friends. I'm thankful to have known him, and will remember him always. Rest in heavenly peace, sweet Ivan.
