A Life Well Lived
Ivan Bauer, Hull, Georgia, 84, died peacefully at home on February 28, 2026, surrounded by loved ones who will carry a lifetime of memories.
He and Vicki were married 60.5 years. Sons Kevin (Cameron) and Michael (Melissa); daughter Tori (Ken) and grandchildren Grayson, Ava, Maddie and Nathan were present in person or by phone for his last breath.
Ivan was a Little League coach for many years and instilled the love of baseball in his son, Michael, and many other boys. He could be heard saying “head down, swing level” as each player was at bat.
Ivan served in the US Navy for 23 years; then worked at Overhead Door (retired); Univ. of Georgia, Veterans Affairs (retired).
Ivan’s family owes an insurmountable debt of gratitude to Dr. Kareem Abu El-Magd (UPMC) for the surgery that saved his life in 2005. And to the local doctors who kept him as healthy as possible for his final 20 years.
As the family aged, Ivan taught Acey Deucy (a board game he learned in the Navy) to anyone willing to learn. It’s been a beloved tradition for over 50 years. His hobbies kept him occupied too. He loved working outdoors, mowing the lawn; browsing Thrift Stores, and was a faithful friend to his Overhead Door retirees’ lunch group.
Though his final years were more doctors and a few hospitalizations, family was always near. He will be in our hearts always.
