Ivan Hendee Obituary
He was born in Grand Isle, VT to Leon and Anna May (LaMott) Hendee. Ivan grew up farming with his parents and brothers in Grand Isle and then Jericho, where he also built his family. Though he held a variety of jobs during his lifetime, including many years at Val Preda, Ivan had a particular gift for carpentry. He especially enjoyed building projects with his brothers, children, grandchildren, and friends. Ivan proudly served his country in the US Army in the 1950s, including time overseas in Germany, and built lifelong friendships in the process. He married his beloved wife, Margaret "Peggy" (White), in 1965 and was a devoted father to his two daughters.
Known as a man who couldn't sit still, Ivan always had a long to-do list he was working through. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, gambling on the casino slot machines, seeing new places, playing softball, snowmobiling, making pies, and visiting his Army buddies. At home, when he wasn't trying out a new dinner recipe, Ivan could often be found drinking a Pepsi and watching the Red Sox, MSNBC, or a Hallmark movie with one of his pets nearby. Above all else, he loved his family, with a particular soft spot for his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Peggy; daughters Michelle Harkey of North Carolina and Patricia Hendee of Fairfax; grandchildren Nicholas, William, and Katherine; siblings Leon, Wayne, and Kevin; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, his brother Elton, and several of his Army Buddies.
Visiting hours will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St., Essex Jct, VT 05452. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 14, 2023 at St. Joseph's Church, 185 U.S. Rte 2, Grand Isle, VT 05458..
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice; two near and dear to his heart are the American Legion and the Alzheimer's Association.
Arrangements are under the care of Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home and Cremation Service – Essex Jct.
