SWANTON - Ivan F. Johnson Sr., age 83, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at the McClure-Miller Respite House in Colchester.
He was born in Sheldon on May 17, 1941 to the late Daniel & Bernice (Horner) Johnson
After graduating from Enosburg Falls High School in 1959, Ivan proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army, an experience that he often recalled with pride. A lifetime member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, Ivan held his service to his country close to his heart. Ivan married Carole (Howard) and they were married for 61 years until her passing in 2021
Ivan held many jobs throughout his life, including owning two businesses. He was known not only for his work ethic but also for his love of flipping properties, a passion that Carole humorously did not always share. Ivan was a true sports fan who reveled in the thrill of every Boston team's victory and spent winters soaking up the sun in Florida. He loved embarking on cruises, camping, and traveling, gathering stories that would fill every family gathering with laughter and nostalgia.
Ivan’s greatest joy, however, came from his family. He is survived by his two sons, Ivan Johnson Jr. and his wife Mary, and Bruce Johnson and his significant other Jessica Ladd; grandchildren, JoAna Smith and her husband Mike, Joey Johnson and his wife CariJoy, Adam Johnson and his wife Kelli, Abby Bessette and her husband Tim, and Ryan Magnant and his wife Kate; great grandchildren, Cheyanne Johnson, Savannah Johnson, Camden Johnson, Carter Bessette, Carson Bessette, and Louanna Magnant; siblings, Shirley Burns and her significant other Hiram, and Wayne Johnson and his wife Faye; sister-in-law, Mary Howard and her significant other Jonathan; many nieces, nephews, and friends from the Brookside community. In addition to his parents, Ivan was predeceased by his wife, Carole Johnson; nine siblings; and good friend, Cora Clement.
Friends & family are invited to Ivan's life celebration on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, to include visitation from 4-6:00 PM followed with a funeral service at 6:00 PM at the Goss Life Celebration Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton, VT. Ivan will be laid to rest in the spring next to his wife Carole in Riverside Cemetery in Swanton.
For those who wish, contributions in Ivan's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
