With profound sadness, we share the tragic passing of Ivan Torres, who was taken from us too soon, on February 15, 2025. Ivan was born on January 20, 1985, in Mexico City to his loving parents, Alfredo Velasco and Elva Torres. His life's journey took him from Mexico to Pawtucket, Rhode Island, where he lived from 1992 to 2011, before eventually making his home in Spokane, Washington, for the past fourteen years.
Ivan's relentless drive and passion led him to excel academically and professionally. He graduated from Davies High School, then pursued higher education at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI, and later at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, WA. A talented accountant, Ivan dedicated his career to his profession since 2014. But his heart was always with soccer-first as a professional player starting in 2006 and then as a beloved coach since 2014, mentoring and inspiring countless young athletes.
More than anything, Ivan was a man of deep love and devotion. He married the love of his life, Isabel Mazcot, on September 3, 2016, in Spokane, and together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering support for each other and their family. His children, Erik Bravo, Adrian Xavier Torres, and Celeste Bravo, were his greatest pride, and he poured every ounce of his energy into ensuring their happiness and success.
Ivan's presence was magnetic-he was the definition of optimistic, gregarious, and strong. His laughter filled every room, and his unwavering confidence made him a natural leader. He was romantic, cariñoso, loyal, and boujee, always making those he loved feel special and welcomed. A revolutionary spirit at heart, he stood by his principles, never afraid to challenge the norm. He was a wise go-getter, a hardworking overachiever who made the impossible look effortless. Yet, despite his determination, he was selfless-always putting others before himself, always ready to lend a hand, always there to uplift his community, especially the Latin American community.
His passions were as vibrant as his personality. Soccer was his lifeblood, and his heart beat for Las Águilas, Fútbol Mexicano, FC Barcelona, and the Raiders. He was a fan of F1, basketball, and motorcycle riding. He found joy in music-whether playing the guitar, singing, or dancing. A lover of history, books, traveling, grilling, walking dogs, going to the theaters, and boating, Ivan was brave and embraced life with spontaneity and positivity. He had an appreciation for watches, and he enjoyed writing.
Ivan leaves behind his beloved wife, Isabel Mazcot; his cherished children, Erik Bravo, Adrian Xavier Torres, and Celeste Bravo; his brother, Eloy Velasco; his sister, Li Velasco; his parents, Alfredo Velasco and Elva Torres; his grandfather, Eloy Torres; and his grandmother, Lidia Islas. He now joins his grandmother, Jovita Sanchez, and grandfather, Abraham Velasco, in eternal rest.
Ivan was, simply put, the best man to exist. His family was always first. His love was immeasurable, his impact unforgettable.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Ivan's extraordinary life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 N Pines Rd, Spokane Valley, WA 99206. Friends and family are invited to share their memories of Ivan on his tribute wall.
Though he is no longer with us, his spirit, his love, and his legacy will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew him.
Descansa en paz, Ivan. Te amaremos por siempre.
