J. W. BENSON
Reagan, TN: J. W. Benson age 87 passed away April 17, 2025, at Lexington Manor in Lexington, TN.
He was born March 23, 1938, in Reagan, the son of the late Evans V. and Minnie Lee Spencer Benson.
He married Theresa Vaughn on September 10, 1958, and they raised four children and enjoyed sixty-four years together when she passed away on March 3, 2022.
Mr. Benson owned his own Trucking Company Benson Trucking for over sixty years. He also farmed in Reagan.
He enjoyed going to auctions, playing cards and an occasional trip to the Casino.
He attended Union Hill Baptist Church at Reagan.
Mr. Benson is survived by a daughter, Vonda Patrice Benson of Holly Springs, MS, two grandchildren, Joey Burton (Crystal) of Byhalia, MS and Chazz Garner of Bartlett, three great grandchildren, Asher Brewer, Ava Brewer and Kirsten McVay and a great-great grandchild, Easton McVay, three brothers, Jerry Benson of Reagan, Johnny Benson of Reagan and David Benson of AL, and two sisters, Mildred Bivens of Sardis and Marie Benson of Reagan.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Carter Ray Benson and Jimmy Wayne Benson, a daughter, Seleda Benson, five brothers, D.C. Benson, Cecil Smith, Raymond Smith, Frank Smith and Warren Benson, and four sisters, Zula Bailey, Mayrene Essary, Nell Cherry and Aldean Kennedy.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, April 20th at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Pastor Bobby Rushing officiating. Burial will follow at Benson Cemetery at Enville, TN.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM service time on Sunday.
