Dr. J. Timothy "Tim" Cannon, 73, of Scranton, died Nov. 14, 2022.
Dr. Cannon obtained his baccalaureate in psychology from the University of Scranton, received his doctorate in experimental psychology from the University of Maine and conducted his postdoctoral work at UCLA before returning to work at the University of Scranton in 1981. While at the University of Scranton, he served as a professor, an associate department chair (1987-1998), and director of the neuroscience program (1987-2011). For more than 40 years, Dr. Cannon was a dedicated educator who conducted research, mentored students and regularly shared the most recent science articles with others. His research interests included behavioral neuroscience, pain research and treatment leading to the publication of more than 25 articles in academic journals. Dr. Cannon shared his enthusiasm for science with aspiring young neuroscientists through programs such as Kids Judge! Neuroscience and Brain Bee. In 1995, Dr. Cannon was named Pennsylvania CASE professor of the year. In his leisure time, he enjoyed attending live music concerts, photography and cooking.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sid and Nancy Cannon (Culkin).
He is survived by his brother, Brian Cannon (Terry); daughter, Christie (Kevin); son, Sean (Andrea); son, Michael (Carrie); daughter, Jaye (Fredrik); and daughter, Linnea; grandchildren, Dawson, Brogan, Bradlyn, Conall, Makaela, Isabella, Isaac, Jack, Owen and Jacquelin; as well as nephew, Brendan; and niece, Erin.
A visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 18, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Neil W. Regan Funeral Home, 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton, PA 18505, and a memorial gathering will be held at the University of Scranton, Room 133, Loyola Science Center, on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org.
