J. Harry Curtis, 87, of Covington, Ga, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026. He prepared his own obituary.
"I confess that I wrote this, my own obituary, in advance, so that no one else will be blamed:
J. Harry Curtis was a lifelong native of Newton County. Harry attended Livingston Grammar School, graduated from NCHS in 1956, graduated from Georgia Tech in 1964, did PhD graduate study in International Business at Georgia State University, served three years in the Army Security Agency unit of the National Security agency in the Panama Canal Zone, and retired from the State Government in 1988.
Harry was married to Jan Poitevint Curtis for over sixty years and loved her beyond any human measure. Harry enjoyed reading, writing, watching movies, and eating out with his family. Harry considered himself the most fortunate man on earth by virtue of his wife, daughter, and parents, Hollis and Ruth Curtis.
Harry hopes there will be no funeral, but if there is one, he is pleased to be able to forego it. Harry advises everyone to remember that one hundred years from now virtually all of the eight billion or so people on earth will also be dead.
Harry hopes he will be able to wait in Delwood Cemetery for his beloved wife's arrival."
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Covington Building Fund. https://fbccov.churchcenter.com/giving
