J. Lorraine Mason, 83, of Oakland, entered the presence of her Heavenly Father on August 24, 2024, surrounded by her family. Born on March 7, 1941, in an old farm house on Roth Reynolds Road, she was the daughter of the late Alfred J. "Fatty" and Betty D.L. (Calvert) Kight.

Lorraine was married while still in high school and she was a town girl who knew nothing about the farm life that she was about to embark on. She was proud to be called a house wife and was a fantastic cook. Lorraine loved hosting Sunday dinners. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and mowing the yard. As the wife of a dairy farmer, she soon took over the job of caring for all the calves. She worked alongside her husband, and together they received many outstanding awards for their work in the dairy business. They loved traveling all over the country and achieved the goal of making it to every state with the exception of Hawaii.

Lorraine was a member of the Faith Church, where she served on many committees; her favorite job was working in the kitchen, where she always felt at home. In her younger years, Lorraine enjoyed bowling on the Monday Skirt League and doing aerobics at Brenda's Body Shop. She routinely walked many miles across the beautiful property that she and her husband owned known as Ch Lo Ma Farm. She was a member of the Oakland Home Makers and helped with local blood drives, county elections, and Hospice fundraisers.

Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, who she loved dearly. She had a unique way of making each of them feel special. Lorraine loved the holidays and never missed an opportunity to have a dinner or picnic where everyone could gather around the table and just enjoy being together as a family.

Lorraine never complained no matter the challenge she was facing and she always tried her best to keep a positive attitude and a sense of humor. Even during the final hours of life her last words were, "It's a beautiful day!" Our family is requesting that memorials take the form of contributions to either Hospice of Garrett County or Cindy's Fund. Both of these amazing organizations helped our mother tremendously in her last years of life.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 66 years, Charles W. Mason, Jr.; three children, Tammy Mattingly and husband John, Susan Newton and boyfriend Joe Friend, and Andy Mason and wife Laura; six grandchildren, Sara (Thomas) Elkas, Craig Mason, Mark Mattingly, Colt Mason, Travis Newton, and Chase Mason; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Cody W. Ferguson, and her brother, Jack A. Kight.

Friends will be received on August 30, 2024, from 10 AM to 12 PM at Faith Church, 1009 Maryland Highway, Oakland. A funeral service will be held at 12 PM in the church with Pastor David Martin and Pastor Jeff Kroll officiating. Interment will be held privately in the Oakland Cemetery.

The C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Oakland, is honored to be serving the Mason family.
