J.William Scharff

J. William (Bill) Scharff passed away on October 16,2024 after a lengthy illness.
Bill was born March 3,1942, in Utica NY to William and Gladys (Dumas) Scharff. Upon graduation from Utica area catholic schools, Bill enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the USS Polaski, nuclear submarine. After discharge, Bill was employed briefly by IBM in the Boston area. Bill then established and ran his own successful software consulting business in Massachusetts and New Hampshire until retiring in 2004.
Bill married his childhood sweetheart Janet Heintz in 1963. They shared 49 blissful years together prior to Janets passing in 2011. They were blessed with four wonderful children of which Bill expressed great pride.
He is survived by his eldest son Bill, his wife Nicole and their sons, Matt and Jason of Windham NH, Daughter Lisa and her husband Josh of Newport NH, Daughter Mary and her sons, Brandon, Michael and Alex of NH, and Hudson Falls NY, Son Bob and his wife Shelly also of NY and nieces and nephews.
Additionally, Bill is survived by his sister Monica of NC, Bill was preceded in death by his bother Richard and sisters Theresa and Janet.
Bill was a respectful son, a responsible brother, an admirable Patriot, upstanding employer, a faithful and adoring husband, a loving father, a loyal and forever friend who so lovingly opened his heart and unselfishly availed his home to countless travelers through the years. Bill is deeply loved, and his presence sorely missed by all who were privileged to know him.
Visiting hours will be held Fri. Oct. 25 from 9AM- 11AM at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 58 Long Pond Dr., S. Yarmouth. Graveside services to follow with military honors at 12:30 PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bill's favorite charities, St Jude's Hospital, and The Salvation Army are respectfully appreciated.
