OBITUARY
Ja Brion Amiré Johnson was born in
Easton, Maryland on June 20, 2002. He departed this life at the age of twenty-two (22) on September 23, 2024 at Easton Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. "Jay", as he was affectionately called, was the son of William Sampson and Natasha Milton.
He attended public schools in Dorchester County. While attending Maple Elementary School, Jay was inducted into the National Elementary Honor Society during the 2012-2013 school year. In his senior year, he was admitted to Children's National Hospital in Washington, DC, where he was a patient for several months. Following his care and treatment there, he was discharged to Kennedy Krieger Rehabilitation Center in Baltimore, Maryland for rehabilitation until late February 2020. Because of his studies while at Kennedy Krieger, he was able to graduate from Cambridge South Dorchester High School with his classmates in June of that year. After being home for a couple of years, Jay was determined that his health issues would not stop him. He obtained employment at Walmart in
Easton, Maryland and remained there until his health began to fail.
Jay loved to shop and make shopping lists, especially for clothes and shoes. He also had a love for basketball and football. His love for shopping often led him to frequently change teams in order to collect new jerseys and sneakers. Ray Allen was his favorite basketball player. In August 2018, due to his illness, the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted him a wish. Naturally, his first option was to meet and spend time with Ray Allen. Unfortunately, that wish could not be arranged due to time constraints. Because of his love for shopping, he chose to go on a shopping spree as his second option.
Spending time and cooking with his family were also important to Jay. Going to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina was something he loved to do. He loved playing drums, video games, watching wrestling and attending wrestling matches with his father. Riding with his "Granny" and "Aunt Margarita" was a favorite outing. He also loved spending time at the shop with "Pop June Bug." Jay had a special love for his parents and family. Spending weekends and summers in Hurlock was extra special and he enjoyed the time spent with family. A very caring person, Jay often worried about others. Because of his caring nature, during each hospital and rehabilitation stay, all the doctors, nurses and other staff on his care team came to love him. He had what many would call an "old soul."
Jay leaves loving memories with: his parents, William Sampson and Natasha Milton (Brandon); brother, William Manokey, Jr.; paternal grandparents, Lynette Sampson and Reginald Singleton; maternal grandparents, Lillian Johnson-Ralph, Lee Ralph and Roelando Newton; paternal great-grandparents, Earlene and Lewis Harris and Beverly Lake; maternal great-grandparents, Annette Newton and Cornelius Johnson (Margie); uncles, Rian Johnson, Roe'Quon Newton and Nazair Whitfield; a best friend, Rodney Jones, Jr.; devoted cousins, Verdell "P" Weems and Clinton Weems, whom he called his best friend; his godfather, Duane Tilghman; a special friend, Trevor Singleton and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jay was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Dwayne Dotson, paternal great-grandparents, Walter and Christine Dotson and maternal great-grandparents, Ernestine Johnson and Eugene Camper.
