On May 12, 2025, Jack Anderson, 99, of Towson, passed away. Jack was the devoted husband of the late Phyliss Anderson (nee Weber); beloved father of Donna Thompson and her husband Frank, Therese Kress, Ross, Lynn and the late Derek Peter Anderson; cherished grandfather of Lauren, Heather, Brian, Shannon, and Danielle; great grandfather of Michael, Dalton, Ryan, Jack, and Chelsea; devoted brother of the late Evelyn Milburn, James Briggle and Betty Badolato.
Jack Anderson was born in Maryland in June of 1925 with his twin sister Betty (aka Betz). He also had an older sibling named Bud who he absolutely admired and looked up to as well as another sister named Evelyn.
Jack entered the Navy at age 18 on September 21st 1943. Jack was trained as an aviation electrician and served aboard an aircraft carrier during WWII. He was discharged from the Navy in April of 1946. Jack became an appliance repairman after leaving the military.
Jack married Myrtle Wright in 1946. Jack and Myrtle had three children: Donna, Derek and Therese.
In 1977 Jack married again, this time to Phyllis Weber. Jack became the stepfather for Lynn and Ross.
Jack's grandchildren include Heather Wick, Lauren Askew, Brian Kress, Danielle and Shannon. Great grandchildren include Micheal and Dalton Parrish, Ryan Wick, Jack Kress and Chelsea Askew.
According to Jack's granddaughter Lauren, Jack was well liked by everyone who knew him. He was and remained the most chivalrous, kind and loving man you would ever meet. He had a love for food, music, traveling and the outdoors. He spent many hours in the garden and maintaining the lawn. He enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife Phyllis. After taking lessons, they would go out dancing as often as they could. He also enjoyed cruising with his wife Phyllis and twin sister Betty and her husband Ed. Jack celebrated every birthday with his twin sister Betty. During Jack's his first marriage he was an active member of the Catholic Church. He was also a member and President of the Holy name society. He won "Man of the year" and was honored at memorial stadium.
Jack Anderson was recently honored with a Salute to Service Tribute conducted by a team of Gilchrist military veteran volunteers. The tribute included an opening prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Jack was presented with a certificate of appreciation from Gilchrist, a copy of a letter from President Truman sent to all returning WWII military service members, and a We Honor Veterans pin from the Veterans Administration. Jack was also given a patriotic blanket made by a Gilchrist volunteer.
Jack's daughter, granddaughter, and great granddaughter were presented Proud Family Member of a Veteran pins. One of the Navy veterans then read "When the Last Hand Comes Aboard" – a poem written for Navy veterans. The tribute concluded with an honor salute presented by the seven military volunteers followed by a closing prayer.
One of the veteran volunteers commented "It is such an honor to salute a WWII veteran."
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Jack's life at the Evans Life Celebration Home, 8800 Harford Road,
Parkville, MD, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, from 6-8 P.M. A Committal Service will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at Baltimore National Cemetery, Catonsville, MD.
