 Belford Bache, 93, of Cleveland, departed this earth on Wednesday, January 22nd, to be with Jesus. He was a native of Culpeper, Virginia and a decorated veteran of the US Army.

Jack was a member of Clingan Ridge Baptist Church and a former member of Gum Springs Baptist Church where he was involved with Vacation Bible School and edited the Church Bulletin. He became a resident of Garden Plaza in 2020 and made many friends and enjoyed the multitude of activities there. In January 2025, Jack entered hospice and became a resident of the Tennessee State Veterans Home, where he spent his final days surrounded by the caring staff.

Jack was a graduate of Culpeper High School in Culpeper, Virginia. He was drafted into the US Army in May 1952, and made a 24-year career, retiring in October 1976, as a Chief Warrant Officer. His career took him many places including, Ft. Jackson, South Carolina, Ft. Meyer, VA, Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, Ft. McPherson, Georgia, Ft. Meade, Maryland, North Hollywood, California, Verdun, France, Korea, Viet Nam, Japan and Izmir, Turkey. While serving in Viet Nam, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroism in action. He served at the Pentagon for many years and had the honor of serving under General Melvin Zais, who he greatly admired, and 1973 he served under General Zais at the NATO Southeast Headquarters in Izmir, Turkey, where he and his family lived for several years.

He also served as an assistant to General Omar Bradley and in 1969, had the opportunity to relocate his family to North Hollywood, CA and be involved with the filming of the movie "Patton", when General Bradley was an advisor on the set.

He retired from the Army in October 1976 at Ft. Meade, MD and moved to Cleveland, TN, the hometown of his wife, Jean. After his retirement, he began a second career with the US Forestry Service as a Safety Officer, that lasted for 19 years. During this 2nd Career, he traveled several times to active wildfire locations to assist with logistics.

After his retirement from the US Forestry Service, Jack attended and graduated from Cleveland State Community

College. He was a talented artist and enjoyed substitute teaching and volunteering, especially at Hopewell Elementary School, when his granddaughter was a student, and also at Tennova Hospital and The Caring Place. He made friends easily! He also enjoyed traveling with his Senior Circle group, and he loved Casino trips!

He was proceeded in death by his wife, Arla Jean Bache, parents Clyde Grover Bache and Gabriella Burke Bache, brothers Pete Bache, Bee Bache, Buck Bache (Winnie) and Donnie Bache (Shirley), and sister Barbara Jean Bache. Also, his sisters in laws, Francis Beaty, Glenda Bishop, Ada Bache and Ethel Bache. Brothers in Laws, Tommy Young, Bob Young, Chuck Young, Willis Young, David Young, Kenneth Young and Robert Beaty.

Survivors include his daughters, Cathy Hake (Jim), Christine Fontaine (Ron), both of Cleveland, TN, Carole Baker

(Glenn) of Atlanta, GA and Maria Cole of Murfreesboro, TN. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lyric Wells

(David), Jack Baker, Marcus Hake (Jennifer) and Matt Hake (Rebecca), Jason Fontaine (Brittany), Susan Shepherd (Chris) , Jessica Patterson, Emily Baker and Rosy Baker. He also leaves behind his great grandchildren, Luke Wells and Oliver Wells, Angelica Smith (Quinton), Caitlin Hart, Jalen Fontaine, Joel Fontaine, Scarlett Fontaine, Julius Fontaine, Violett Fontaine, James Fontaine and Daisy Fontaine. He is also survived by his sister in laws, Shirley Bache, Winnie Bache, Linda Bishop and Brenda Eversole (Jerry), brother-in-law, David Johnson, and his many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, that he cared deeply for and strived to keep in contact with. He leaves behind some very special friends, Jean Westmoreland and her entire family who treated him as a part of their family, and Kevin Schwartz, who traveled with Jack on many adventures! He cherished his Garden Plaza family who were very important to him, his RA's and caregivers, especially Leslie, Jill and so many others it's impossible to name them all.

The family will receive friends Monday, January 27th, 2025, at Poole Funeral Home, 3000 Ralph Buckner Blvd; Cleveland, TN from 4 PM to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 28th, 2025, at 11 AM in the chapel at Poole Funeral Home. Interment will be at 1:30 PM on Tuesday at Chattanooga National Cemetery
