Jack Emile Baquet, a cherished member of the Ville Platte community, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2025, in Lafayette, Louisiana, at the age of 74. Jack was born on Tuesday, August 29, 1950, in Ville Platte and lived a life filled with passion and love for life.
Jack attended Sacred Heart High School, where he graduated in 1968. He was a proud member of the 1967 Sacred Heart High School football team; he contributed to their remarkable achievement as state champions—a feat that remains unmatched in the school's history. His education continued beyond high school when he pursued studies in Lafayette and Shreveport, specializing in x-ray technology with an emphasis on nuclear scanning.
A respected professional, Jack spent many years working at the hospital in DeQuincy, where he made significant contributions to the health and well-being of his community. His commitment to his work reflected his deep care for others and his desire to make a positive impact.
Jack proudly served in the Navy, assigned to a submarine service, showcasing his dedication to his country during a pivotal time in history. This experience not only shaped his character but instilled in him a sense of discipline and honor that he carried throughout his life.
In his leisure time, Jack enjoyed playing golf and often found joy in solving crossword puzzles. His daily coffee meetings at the Y'Not Stop were a highlight, allowing him to connect with friends and enjoy camaraderie. Additionally, he loved exploring new culinary experiences by dining out at different restaurants with his family.
Jack will be remembered not just for his accomplishments and service, but also for his warm spirit and kindness. He will live forever in the hearts of his family including his two brothers, Gerald “Jerry” Baquet and wife, Susan and Bennett Baquet and wife, Sherry; sister-in-law, Sally Reed Baquet; his lifetime sweetheart, Cheryl Debaillon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He now rests with his parents, George Edward Baquet, Sr. and Margory Soileau Baquet and brothers, George Baquet, Jr. and Robert “Bill” Baquet.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and again on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 9:00 AM. Deacon Ben Soileau will lead in the recitation of the rosary on Thursday at 11:00 am followed by a funeral service. Jack will be laid to rest in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery on a later date.
Jack Emile Baquet's legacy will continue to shine through the lives he touched and the memories he created.
