LANCASTER, SC – Mr. Jack Ferral Carnes, age 91, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023. He was born March 18, 1932, in Lancaster, a son of the late Roy Ernest Carnes and Ella Edith Walters Carnes and was the husband of Phebe Ann Dew Carnes. Mr. Carnes proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a Korean War Veteran. He was employed with Evans Oil as a Delivery Driver and also patrolled for Lancaster County Sheriff's Department for 13 years. Mr. Carnes enjoyed working on his farm, raising cattle, and gardening. Family was very important to him, and he loved them dearly. He was a long time very active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and for over 60 years as counting and attendance clerk.
Mr. Carnes is survived by his wife of 67 years, Phebe Carnes; two daughters, Becky Carnes Sanders and Anne Carnes Briggs (Spencer); four grandchildren, Kevin Summers (Brittany), Wess Briggs (fiancée, Chloe Blackmon), Jesse Briggs, and Trace Briggs; two great grandchildren, Owen Summers and Aubrey Summers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Jack Ferral Carnes, Jr. and Jack Carey Carnes; his parents; a brother, Bill Carnes, five sisters, Wynona Cox, Lou Bundy, Mary Bundy, Doris Carnes, and Ernestine Carnes; and a son-in-law, Tim Sanders.
The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Carnes will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Bethlehem Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Patrick Blackmon and Rev. Jason Myers. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, in the church fellowship hall. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1841 N. Rocky River Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
