Jack Cockrell

Jack Cockrell, 92, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Thursday October 3, 2024 at his home in Surfside Beach, South Carolina. He was born on January 19, 1932 in Lexington, South Carolina to the late Fulmer & Ruth Steele Cockrell.
Along with his parents, Jack is reunited in passing with his brother, Bill Cockrell.
Jack was a hardworking man with a heart of gold and a zest for life. He proudly served our Country in the United States Air Force. Following his honorable separation from the military, Jack went on to work in the textile industry where he climbed the ranks to become Supervisor of the Finishing Department. While in Lancaster, Jack was a member of White Springs Baptist Church as well as several different churches where he was the choir director and wrote many songs. In his free time, Jack enjoyed watching sports including, baseball, basketball and was an avid golfer. Above all else, Jack loved his family with his whole heart. He will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish Jack's memory are his adoring wife, Shirley Whitley Cockrell of Surfside Beach, SC; son, Jacky Cockrell (Patricia Steele) of Lancaster, SC; daughters, Vicky Stacks (Kenny) of Surfside Beach, SC & Shannon Cobb (Phil) of Murrells Inlet, SC; grandchildren, Scott Player, Tracy Devlin (Chris), William Kirland (Carissa), Seth Cobb (McKenzie) & Alli Pate; great-grandchildren, Karly, Jakob, Caden, Avery, Noah, Lakyn & Jessa; as well as a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.
A Celebration of Jack's life will be held at1:00PM on Monday October 7, 2024 at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Highway, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
