Jack da Cruz

Jack Joaquim da Cruz passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, leaving behind a

legacy of love, family, and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of

those who knew him. Jack was born in Faro, Portugal and grew up in Lisbon before

immigrating to the United States in 1959. Jack was the proud father of five children who

were the center of his world: Michael of Alabama, John and Joseph of New Jersey,

Michelle Dacruz Anderson of New Jersey, and Bernadette of Virginia. His legacy

continues through his seven cherished grandchildren: Michael Jr., Madison, Frank,

Lauren, John Jr., Taylor, and Tiffany, each one bringing immeasurable joy to his life. Jack

maintained close ties with his special cousins Joao and Maria of Portugal, and Jason of

Gibraltar, and was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews who will deeply

miss his presence. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Joaquim DaCruz and

Florencia Astengo, and his dear brothers Ernest, Phillip, and Joseph. He is survived by

his sister, Maria and spouse Marta. Jack dedicated many years to General Motors, where

he proudly served as a Union Benefits Representative until his retirement in 1999, and

was committed to advocating for his fellow workers and took great pride in his work. A

true history buff, Jack had an insatiable curiosity about the past and loved sharing his

knowledge with others. His home was often filled with music and singing, as he found

joy in melody and song, and Jack's love of comedy and laughter was infectious-he had

a gift for bringing smiles to those around him. Above all, Jack held a deep and abiding

love for his beloved homeland of Portugal. Throughout his life, he cherished his

Portuguese heritage and longed to return to the country that forever held his heart. His

connection to Portugal remained a defining part of who he was. Jack touched countless

lives with his warmth and kindness, cultivated many friendships, and was known for his

generous spirit, his infectious laughter, and the love he shared with all who knew him.

Jack Joaquim da Cruz will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family,

friends, and all whose lives he touched. His memory will live on through the love he

gave, the family he built, and the joy he brought to every room he entered. Funeral

services will be held Sunday, December 14, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Oliverie

Funeral Home. His final resting place will be in Faro, Portugal.
