ADRIAN - Jack E. DeLand, age 76, of Adrian, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. He was born in Adrian on May 5, 1948, to the late Willard D. and Pauline (Tillotson) DeLand. After graduating from Adrian High School, he attended Michigan State University, attaining a Bachelor of Science degree. On July 12, 1969, he married Connie M. Filley in Adrian, and she survives.
Jack worked for Adrian Police Department. He began his public service on December 8, 1975, under the badge number 3722. Jack had an immense love for his job and was well respected in the community. He retired as sergeant on June 23, 2005, after 30 years of continuous service to the City of Adrian and its residents.
In his retirement, Jack worked on his yard, ensuring Connie's flowers never encroached into his grass. He could be a real smart aleck at times, and never turned down an opportunity to help anyone with anything. In his down time, he loved to read, watch westerns, and work crossword puzzles.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 56 years, Connie; sons, Scott (Eva) and Derek (Kris) DeLand, and Cecil Fowler; grandchildren, Spencer, Alexis, Owen, Ethan, and Liam DeLand; and sisters, Diane (Joe) Bennett and Sandra Danon. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jane DeLand.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, April 28, 2025, from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 PM, at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home in Adrian. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 12:00 PM until time of funeral service at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Adrian. Fellow retiree and friend, Tim Judkins, will officiate.
