Jack Elliston Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Walnut Lawn Funeral Home - Springfield on Mar. 4, 2026.
Jack was born to William and Lucille Elliston and grew up on the family farm where much of his childhood was spent exploring the creeks and countryside around home. From an early age it was clear that Jack was bright, curious, and independent. He loved learning and moved quickly through school, even testing out of his first year of college.

He is preceded in death by our parents and by our sister Jill. He is survived by his siblings Jeff and his wife Hiromi, and Janna, along with nieces, nephews, and extended family who remember him with love.

At eighteen, Jack followed a strong sense of duty and joined the United States Army. He trained as an Airborne soldier and rose to the rank of sergeant, something he was always proud of. Those who knew him recognized that same courage, discipline, and independence throughout his life. His military service was an important chapter that reflected the strength of character he carried with him in everything he did.

After his military service, Jack continued pursuing education. He studied economics at Columbia University and later earned a law degree from Stanford. Those achievements reflected both his intelligence and the drive he carried with him from an early age.

Life brought many different chapters for Jack. Some were challenging, but through it all he remained someone who valued independence and resilience. For many years he lived in the community that became his home, where he spent nearly two decades. During that time, family remained important, and we stayed connected with him and cared about his well-being.

During those years, Jack also found a spiritual home in the Orthodox Church. His faith and the life of the parish meant a great deal to him, and he was proud to be among the early members of this community. The church became an important place of belonging and tradition in his life, and it is fitting that we remember that connection to his faith.

Those who knew Jack remember his intelligence, his strong will, and the unique path his life took. Every life is a journey, and Jack's journey included service to his country, remarkable academic accomplishments, and a life lived very much on his own terms.

We remember him as a brother, a son, a veteran, and someone whose life touched ours in lasting ways. We give thanks for his life, and for the memories we carry.

May he rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers for the services, flowers can be sent to The Neighborhoods at Quail Creek in Springfield, Missouri so that the residents can enjoy the flowers and plants in Jack's name.
