John P. Fowler (Jack), a venerated member of his community, passed away on June 12, 2023, at the age of 85 years. Jack was born on November 1, 1937, in
Detroit, Michigan to Clarence and Florence Fowler. He was the beloved husband of Terry for 33 years, loving father of Timothy (Caroline), Wendy (Luis), Lisa (Brad), and Ross. He was also a lovingly revered grandfather to Kelsea, Sabre, Michael, Benjamin, and Allison, and great grandfather to Grayson and Noah.
To know Jack Fowler, was to love and admire him. He was respected and liked by all, as he truly embodied the term gentleman and exemplified the power of authentic kindness. He was a gentle soul, whose outlook on life was always bright and positive. Jack consistently found the silver lining in every aspect of life, and altruistically nurtured his family and friends. He instilled courage in his children to navigate their own paths in life, fueled with love and hard work. As a parent alongside his wife Terry, he provided both strong family roots and wings to fly.
Jack was a proud Navy Veteran, serving aboard the USS Saipan CVL 48 Aircraft Carrier NAS in
Pensacola, FL 1955-1957. After his military service Jack's passion for cars became the inspired foundation for a long, successful career as a car dealer. The owner of Somerset Buick GMC for over forty years, he consistently received national accolades in the automotive industry which included master dealer, and exceptional service awards. Jack's employees honored and respected him tremendously, evidenced by the decades of service they dedicated to him at the dealership. Every morning, Jack walked in and greeted each employee with his smile and kind words.
Jack was an avid and accomplished golfer. His passion for the game was cultivated at an early age, as a youth caddy at Oakland Hills Country Club, where he held the distinction of being one of the oldest longstanding members. Golf was truly one of his great loves. He poured his heart and skill into the game, earning many championship awards at his numerous clubs, including Muirfield Village, Grey Oaks and Great Oaks, where he was a founding member. His hundreds of trophies are only a mere reflection of the contributions that Jack made to the game.
Jack was a generous man to many, always opening his arms to anyone who needed support. His life was filled with blessings and he always gave back where he could. Jack lived a life that touched the world. He loved God deeply. His family believes that he has been welcomed into Heaven and his spirit is now home.
Family will receive friends on Friday, June 16, from 3-7PM at A.J. Desmond & Sons, 2600 Crooks Rd Troy (248) 362-2500.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 17, at 10:30AM at St. Hugo of the Hills Stone Chapel, 2215 Opdyke Bloomfield Hills. Visitation will start in the Stone Chapel at 10AM.
