Jack Hammock Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hansen-Spear Funeral Home on Mar. 30, 2026.
Jack Hammock, of Quincy, died peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026 in Blessing Hospital at the age of 88.

Born in Hannibal, Missouri, to Jospeh and Bessie Hammock, Jack was on of ten children. He graduated from Hannibal High School where he lettered in three sports and earned many awards, including his proudest accomplishment – being chosen a member of the National High School All American Football Team in 1954.

Jack attended Northeast Missouri State College (now Truman State University) where he excelled in three sports. In 1990, he was inducted into the Northeast Missouri State Athletic Hall of Fame, an award he treasured.

Jack spent 33 years teaching Driver Education at Quincy Senior High School as well as coaching football and basketball, and in doing so touched the lives of countless students. HE was a QHS Hall of Fame Inductee as a coach with the 1962 boys basketball tema as well as the 1964-1065 boys basketball team.

Jack loved to hunt and especially loved to fly fish – tying his own flies and building his own fly rods. He was one of the founding member of Western Illinois Flyfishers. He was also an avid supporter of St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Quincy High School Blue Devil football. His greatest pleasure, though, was seeing and enjoying his grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Dr.'s Krause, Kirkpatrick, Hake and Noble, and the staffs at Blessing Hospital and Quincy Medical Group, and the wonderful nurses of 5 North and 6 North at Blessing Hospital for their kind and thoughtful care of Jack over the years.

An honest, honorable man, Jack will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

Jack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol; two brothers, Bill (Nancy) Hammock of Fond du Lac, WI, and Dean Hammock of Hannibal, MO; two sons, Scott (Lorraine) Hammock of Columbia, MO, and John (Kirsten) Hammock of Quincy; a daughter, Kim Sartain of Blue Springs, MO; five grandchildren, Elise, Elizabeth, Jack, Nick, and Beau; as well as numerous other relavies.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Curt, Walter, and Frank, and sisters, Imogene, Libby, Ruby, and Donna.

Jack's wishes were to be cremated. There will be no services.

Memorial donations may be made to the Blessing Foundation and/or to the Quincy Blue Devil Football program. Memorial donations may be made online at https://memorials.hansenspear.com/
