PIQUA -- Jack Lee Havenar, 83, of Piqua, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Versailles Health Care Center. He was born November 16, 1939 in Piqua to the late Louis V. and Frances L. (Howell) Havenar. He married Joan Darlene (Sowry) Havenar May 29, 1962 in St. Mary's and she preceded him in death August 18, 2022.
Survivors include four children, Gina (Dale) Heintz, Karla (Gary) Evans, Brad (Jean) Havenar, and Kelly (Doug) Snider; beloved grandfather to Chad (Aimy) Jacomet, Todd (Kristyn) Jacomet, Erik (Katie) Evans, Ben (Jessica) Evans, Josh (Kendra Vanover) Havenar, Brooke (Dusty Taylor) Havenar, Kyle (Kaitlyn) Havenar, Lauren (Cynthia Thornburg) Seman, Mitchell Havenar, Jennifer (Crue) Boyd, Sarah (Jon) Holmes, and Amanda (Jon) Yant; also 20 great grandchildren that loved him; his brother, Rich (Peg) Havenar; his sister in laws, Suzanne Havenar, and Betty Mullen; brother in law, Steve (Melody) Sowry and their children that became like Jack's grandchildren, Stefanie (Justin Iddings) Sowry, and Jason (Megan Rutledge) Sowry; also many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, Louis (Mary Lou) Havenar, Rosie (Henry) Grise, and Bill Havenar.
Jack was a superintendent at Miami Industries for over 30 years. Following his retirement at Miami Industries, he got into the logging business for about 10 years. In 1995, he began Havenar Lawn Service that is still in business to this day. Jack loved to hunt and fish, taking many trips up to Lake St. Mary's and up to Michigan to go fishing. He loved classic cars, especially '57 Chevys. Jack was also an avid Nascar fan, mainly Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
A graveside service to honor Jack's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2023 at Miami Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2023 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 6077 Far Hills Ave. #117 Dayton OH 45459 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis TN 38105.
