Jack Edward Jackson, MD, PhD of Farmington, NM passed away peacefully in his
home, surrounded by his family on June 14, 2024 at the age of 89. He was born on July 6,
1934 in Trenton, NJ. Growing up with a rifle in hand, Jack spent his days hunting, shooting, and
trapping. He earned his PhD and MD from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL before serving
in the U.S. Public Health System as Senior Surgeon for 2 years in Bethesda, MD. Moving to
San Antonio, TX in 1968, he helped to set up the Clinical Laboratory at the University of Texas
Medical School as a Clinical Pathologist and Associate Professor. After 4 years, Dr. Jackson
moved to Albuquerque, NM taking a position as Chief, Clinical Chemistry Section, V.A. Medical
Center and Associate Professor of Pathology, University of New Mexico School of Medicine until
retirement in 1994. Later moving to Farmington, NM he built his final home. A lifelong hunter
and shooter, in retirement he pursued benchrest shooting and edited the book Rifle Accuracy
Facts by Harold R. Vaughan (1998).
He was known by many of his close friends as "Doc." In later years he utilized his bio-chemistry
expertise to develop the perfect margarita for family and friends. He often stated that his best
day was to hunt with his bird dog by his side and shotgun under his arm.
Preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Golda Jackson, and brother Roy Jackson.
Survived by the love of his life, Marjorie Gayle Murphy, son and daughter in-law Carl and Laura
Jackson of San Antonio, TX, daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Jim Downes of Pocatello, ID.
Grandchildren Jessica Ohmie, Rachel Jackson, Madeline Downes, and Mark Jackson.
