Jack Johnson, Jr.
Garland Henry Jack Johnson, Jr; passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at his home surrounded by family and friends. He had a short, valiant fight against cancer. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 5 at 11:00am at Brookwood Baptist Church.
His is predeceased by his parents, Jack Johnson, Sr and Frances Reid Johnson.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Ann Vick Johnson. He and Ann were blessed with one daughter, Melissa Johnson Senowitz. Melissa's husband is Barry Senowitz and they have two sons, Owen and Brandon. Their granddaddy was so proud of them. He also has a loving brother, David and his wife, Peggy.
Jack's life was a life of service to others, as evidenced by his chosen endeavors. He was a graduate of Campbell University with a B.S. Degree in education as well as a master's degree in administration from East Carolina University. He was assistant principal and coach at Dixon Elementary-Middle School for 31 years. His love for God was evidenced in his serving as a deacon at First Baptist church as well as a deacon at Brookwood Baptist.
He was also a Gideon. His love of history for the south led him to become a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. His service to the community was shown in being a member of the Jacksonville Volunteer Fire Department as well as being on the Onslow County Museum Foundation Board.
Some of his happiest times were when he was hunting ducks and doves with friends and students.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Brookwood Baptist Church Fellowship Hall would be much appreciated.
The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville on Wednesday, October 4 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
