Jack Lingefelt Obituary
Rufus Jackson Lingefelt, Jr., 61, died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at his home.
Jack was born in Anderson Hospital on February 21, 1961. He was the first son of Jack Lingefelt and Susie Durham Riley. With two other Jacks already in the family, he quickly became known simply as Junior.
Junior was a simple man. He was always honest, even to a fault; genuine, what you saw is what you got; a minimalist, he didn't need a lot. His home wasn't packed with belongings or stuff. And he was kind. Never did a child or animal shy away from his incessant picking. He was doing the best he could, facing personal struggles without asking for help. He never wanted to be a bother. He was baptized and believed without any hesitation in Jesus Christ. He read the Bible, studied the teachings of Christ and prayed. There is no doubt he is safely in the arms of our Savior.
He could repair anything from the minibike he rebuilt when he was 10 years old, to old cars he brought back to life, to welding screws and bolts together to make yard art. Junior was frugal with his money and thought a fast-food burger was an indulgence. To save money, he tried to cut his sons' hair; feathered back, he would say. He was stubborn and sometimes unyielding; if he believed it, he would move a mountain before he would change.
Junior was very methodical and analytical. Before tackling any project, he would study, discuss and hypothesize the outcome. Then with the determination and arrogance of a rocket scientist he would tackle the situation. Any mathematic problem could be solved without pen ever touching paper. He could conjugate a verb to show person, number, tense or mood with ease. And of course, he could quote Shakespeare or give the scientific name of any plant. Most folks didn't know this about Junior, as he kept most things to himself.
We knew him as a fun-loving guy, sometimes cynical, with a dry sense of humor. He loved riddles, pintos, and fried fat back. He could have won the APA League 8-Ball Pool Championship with his ability to focus, good hand eye coordination and his ability to think ahead to anticipate the next shot. He taught his sons how to tie a strong fishing knot, how to stake a tomato plant and how to change a tire.
He will always be remembered as Jack's son, Susie's oldest boy, Grandma's little darling; Gail's oldest little brother; Andy's tormentor; Lindsey's love; Jackson, Cole, and Ben's "Diddy"; and Susanna's "Daddy".
The family would appreciate your presence to honor Junior's life on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Refuge Baptist Church, Central, S.C. The Reverend Joe Pace, who led Junior to the Lord and baptized him at the age of 12, will officiate the service. The family will gather with friends one hour before the service at the Church. Following the service, Junior will be laid to rest in the Church graveyard.
Those serving as pallbearers are his sons, Cole and Ben Lingefelt; son-in-law, Evan Tollison; nephews, Trent Stuart and Tully Lingefelt; cousins, Jeff Lingefelt and Mitchell Swaney; and lifelong friend, Ronnie Richards.
"Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die."
- John 11:25-26
