Jack Maggard April 3, 1935 – April 13, 2025 Jack Maggard, 90, of Worthington, Kentucky, formally from
Grayson, Kentucky, passed away after a prolonged illness at his home on April 13, 2025. Born in Bruin, Kentucky, on April 3, 1935, Jack was the son of the late Walter "Red" Maggard and Mattie Porter Maggard. A 1953 graduate of Prichard High School, Jack served his country as a soldier in the United States Marine Corp. Upon returning from his military duty Jack worked various jobs while attending college. In 1964, he began his career working at Armco in the transportation and labor division until he remained until his retirement in 1997. Known for his strong work ethic, one job wasn't enough so while working at Armco Jack owned and operated two businesses, Maggard's Archery Shop and Maggard's Market. Jack always had a deep respect for nature and was an avid hunter and a lifelong advocate for wildlife conservation. He helped to organize the Trophy Hunters Archery Club and was a member of the Little Sandy Fish and Wildlife Club. His dedication to the outdoors was recognized in 1984 when he was honored as the League of Kentucky Sportsmen's Sportsman of the Year. After retirement Jack developed a need to find his heritage. He and his daughter Patricia read several books, spent many hours in county record rooms and done hundreds of hours of online searches to connect all the dots of the Maggard family which he completed. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Elma Gay Pennington Maggard; his daughter, Karen Sue Maggard Mayo; his parents; his brothers, Homer, Frank, Leo, Bobby Gene, Harold, and Carroll; and sister, Joanne Cox. He is survived by his daughter Patricia (Newt) Lewis; grandson, Corey (Tonia) Maggard; granddaughter, Sophie (Zach) Looney; three great-grandchildren, Luke Fischer, Harlan Maggard, Addy Maggard, and Stella Looney. Jack's legacy of love for family and the land will live on through all who knew him. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Malone Funeral Home with Bro. Delmar Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the East Carter County Memory Gardens with full military honors. Visitation will be on Thursday from 11:00 AM until the service hour. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be sent to Community Hospice Ashland, Kentucky.
