Jack Lester Moulton returned to his heavenly home June 8, 2025. He was born September 21, 1932 to Richard Lester and Phyllis Poulson Moulton in Salmon, Idaho. He grew up in and around the Salmon River country until his family moved to Layton, Utah where he graduated from Davis High School. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the US Navy acquiring Radioman 1st Class. He served on many different battleships including the USS Missouri or the “Mighty Mo”

Jack married Phyllis LaRue Black November 21, 1954. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. Phyllis was his true and only love who he was fiercely devoted to. They were able to celebrate 50 years of marriage in 2004.

Jack graduated Valedictorian from BYU with a degree in Youth Leadership. He worked for the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed working at scout camps, Maple Del in Utah, Little Lemhi in Idaho, and Camp Ahwahnee in California.

In 1973 he moved back to Utah becoming a shoe repairman and running Jack’s Shoe Repair shop in Ogden for 20 years retiring in 1994. He worked part time for another six years for his son, Dirk Moulton, who bought the shoe repair shop from him.

Jack was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing. One of his greatest joys was teaching his family, friends, and anyone who wanted to learn how to fish. He caught fish in every body of water from the oceans to tiny streams. Photography was another favorite hobby. He has many beautiful pictures of wildlife and sunsets.

He pitched slow pitch softball for 30 years, finally retiring in 2007 from the Jack’s Shoe Repair team after a shoulder injury.

Jack was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints. He held many Stake and Ward callings, and attended the Temple regularly as long as he was able. He was famous for his raspberry jam, giving bottles of jam at Christmas time to his family, friends and neighbors.

Jack is survived by Connie (Chad) Whetton, Pam (Kim) McGary and Dirk (Melissa) Moulton, 15 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved  wife Phyllis, his son Gregory Shawn, one granddaughter Kylie LaRue Moulton, and one great grandson Oliver Daniel Lindsay.
