Jack Moore Reeves, Jr. of
Wilmington, NC passed away peacefully of natural causes. He was born in Wedowee, Alabama in 1930. Jack led a fulfilling life marked by dedication to his family, career, and country.
After graduating from the University of Alabama in 1952 with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, he served honorably in the US Army, earning the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers. It was during his time stationed at Ft. Belvoir that he met his beloved wife, Virginia "Ginny" Seleno. The couple became engaged before Jack's tour of duty in Korea and were married in September 1955.
Jack's professional journey began with Westinghouse in December 1954 as part of the Graduate Student Program in Pittsburgh. His career with the company saw him undertaking various roles, starting from Bath, NY, to his eventual permanent assignment at the Westinghouse Meter Plant in Raleigh. There, he served as Lead Planning and Business Group Engineer and later joined a planning group for a new plant in Charlotte, spending six months in Philadelphia in preparation. In 1968, Jack moved to Charlotte, becoming part of the "original 100" group for the Westinghouse Turbine Plant. He was responsible for the initial Turbine Plant layout. He received the "George Westinghouse Signature Award" in 1986. Although never a formal title, Jack was referred to as the "Plant Industrial Engineer" by his peers.
Jack had many interests including golf, shag dancing, and spending time on the beach with friends and family. He was an amazing father and grandfather, many times taking the grandkids to the arcades, to play putt-putt, or fun cruisin' on his golf cart. These activities brought him so much joy!
He and Ginny loved "dancing the night away" at Idlewild Country Club or Bopper's Shag Club in Charlotte. Later they enjoyed long relaxing days on the beach with their friends affectionately known as "The Crowd" and fun nights listening to music, karaoke at Scotty's Beach Bar, dancing at Fat Harold's and attending SOS in North Myrtle Beach.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack Moore Reeves, Sr. and Clara Lee Clifton Reeves; and his devoted wife of 56 years, Virginia Seleno Reeves; and his sisters, Anne Reeves Turner and Betty Reeves Abbott.
Jack is survived by three children, daughter Lenora Reeves Critcher and her husband Brad, son Randy Reeves and his wife Brenda; and daughter Terri Reeves. He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren Amanda Critcher Walker and her husband Stephan, Meredith Critcher Dack and her husband Todd, Jacklyn Danneale Bell, Victoria Rachel Bell and her wife Lindsley, Brandon Reeves, and Kyle Reeves. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren Vivian and Silas Walker, Harper, Wyatt and Henry Dack, and Micah Bell.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
