Jack Philip Stella, aged 93, of New Jersey, passed away on September 15, 2024. Born on April 20, 1931, Jack led a life marked by a profound commitment to his community, family, and country. Serving in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1954, Jack received the National Defense Service Medal for his dedication during a critical period in American history. His military service was a source of immense pride and contributed significantly to his character.
After his honorable discharge, Jack embarked on a career as a truck driver for Local 707. Known for his unparalleled knowledge of the streets of Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and New Jersey. Jack was a respected figure among his peers and community. Jack was an outgoing, happy, and generous man, qualities that endeared him to many. He was hard-working, loving, caring and funny. He was a loving father and uncle who helped guide his family through the years. As a grandfather, Jack was in his glory. His grandchildren absolutely loved and adored him. He was and will always be known as Gaga. He would tell his grandchildren the story of when he was a tree. Now he is their eternal tree of life. His love extended beyond his immediate family, touching all those he interacted with.
He is survived by his loving wife, CeCe Stella, his sons, daughters, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son from his first marriage, Dominick (Donnie) Stella and his sisters Isabella Falco, Angelina Stella, and Carmella Umile.
Educated in the public schools of New York and the streets of Queens, Jack carried the lessons learned from his early environment throughout his life, applying them in various aspects, including his hobbies. An avid golfer, bocce ball player, billiards player, and card enthusiast, Jack also had a passion for horse racing. He loved to swim and as a kid he'd swim the East River between Brooklyn and Queens. His weekends were often spent showcasing his culinary skills as an Italian chef and salad maker extraordinaire.
A small private service will be held at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery to honor Jack's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital, or any Cancer, Alzheimer's charity, or a charity of your choosing in Jack's name, reflecting his generous spirit and lifelong desire to help others.
