Jack Sherman Stowers, 88, went to be with his Lord, Friday, November 22, 2024.  He led an interesting life in several states, starting in Minnesota, where he was "chopped out of a block of ice."  He was constantly studying to learn different skills.  Some turned into hobbies like repairing old cars and collector cars.  There were usually old cars in his garage and driveway, waiting to go to car shows and auctions.  He studied at Colorado University , Moody Bible Institute, and Emily Griffith Opportunity School, where he earned his Air frame and Power Plant licenses starting his career with Western Air Lines and Delta Air Lines.  He loved taxiing the big planes around the airports in Colorado, California, Washington State, Ohio, and Alaska.

The school that gave him a lifelong direction was Moody Bible in Chicago.  He completed his airline career, retired, and took up motor homing all over several states including Alaska.  He settled in Colorado and pastored a log church for twenty years.  It was definitely not retirement!  The church on Wild Horse Mesa, 9,000' elevation, up 25 switchbacks, totally off grid.  He loved the people, and the people loved him.  There were actually 4 herds of wild horses on the mesa.  He built a beautiful home there with a 360-degree view of the Rockies, the Sangre de Christos, and ski Rio area.  Their home was a gathering place for the church congregation to come play their instruments, watch good movies, and enjoy pot lucks and Bible studies.

Jack and his wife, Marilyn, were blessed with a son and a daughter, both of whom also graduated from Moody.  They have three granddaughters and a grandson.  A special highlight was celebrated shortly before Jack went to be with his Lord.  He and Marilyn celebrated  their 61st anniversary November 5th while he was in the hospital.  Friends came with helium balloons and cards and made it a lovely time.

Jack served his country as a Navy Seabee, Petty Officer, as well as in the Army and Air Force Reserves.  Jack loved going to the huge Promise Keepers rallies all over the U.S. after Coach McCartney started it in Colorado over 20 years ago.
