Jackie (Jack) Lee Scott passed away peacefully at his home on the evening of Saturday, December 16, while holding his beloved wife's hand.
Jack was born on December 30, 1929 in Oklahoma, but moved to California when he was young Settling in Fremont, Jack attended Centerville Elementary School and graduated from Washington High School in 1947. High school is where he met and fell in love with Mary Santos. They were married on August 6, 1950. Jack and Mary were married for 73 years!
Jack proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from April 1952 to March 1954. Deployed to Korea, he served as a machine gunner. During his time of service he was wounded in combat and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. He returned to combat and was honorably discharged. Although Jack was now a veteran, his pride in being a Marine never left him. Once a Marine, always a Marine.
Jack and Mary started their family when he returned from the Korean War. Their first born, Kent Scott, arrived in 1954. Soon after, Kory Scott was added in 1958, followed shortly by Kip Scott in 1959. After three boys, they welcomed their only daughter, Kelly, who was born in 1967.
Jack supported his growing family for 25 years by working for Kimber Farms in an unusual profession of a "chicken sexer". Following his time at Kimbers, he then worked for Fremont Unified School District in the warehouse as a driver, delivering the mail daily to each school in the district and to the district offices. He was well known for his strong work ethic and precise delivery times. School secretaries would often state that they could set their watches to his daily visits to their offices. He finally retired after 17 years with the school district. Jack loved his time at his jobs and enjoyed making new friends.
Jack was a kind soul who had a sweet disposition and a quick wit. He had many good friends. For Jack, if you were a friend then you were family; raising his children side by side with their lifelong friends, the Browns and the Fernandez families. Jack and Mary enjoyed many years traveling with their friends and family. Innumerable camping and boating trip memories were made with the Brown, Fernandez, Hill, and Rodriguez families, including dozens of other friends and relatives. They spent their free time bowling in various leagues at Cloverleaf Bowl for close to 6 decades. Upon its closing, they were even given a portion of a plank from one of the alleys,
Jack had a deep appreciation for the life he led. Never a day out of work, he was grateful for his family, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. He shared his gratitude with everyone he met, letting them know that he loved them all! Jack lived his life with no regrets.
Jack is survived by his wife, Mary, his son Kent Scott & grandchildren Kevin & Janae Scott, Mary & Matt Navone, Julie Keehan, his son Kory & his grandchildren Keith & Jill Scott, David Scott, and Amy Scott, his son Kip & Ellen Desimpel-Glasgow and daughter-in-law Denise & RAS Sheffield & his grandchildren Janine & Jeremy Nuger, Jessica & Tito Hamze, Brian & Indigo Scott, his daughter Kelly & Vince Meyer and grandchildren Nichole & Kyle Knowlton, Maddy Meyer, and Kelvin Meyer. He was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren He is also survived by his sister, Novalene Rodriguez. Jack was preceded in death by his mother and father, Emma & Harry Scott, brother Duane & Linda Scott, brother-in-law Bert Rodriguez, daughter-in-law Megan Scott, and great-granddaughter Karlee Scott.

March 12, 2024

Vuong and I remember Jack always active with a smile on his face. He walked around the neighborhood always picking up litter to keep the neighborhood clean. He was very friendly. Never judged. We admired the fact that he and his wife are always active and young at heart. He will always be in the hearts of our family. We were sad to hear of his passing. We say prayers for peace for him and his beloved family.
Love,
Vuong, Jesie, Ben, Crysta T.
