With great sorrow and immeasurable love the Convery family share the passing of Jacob Daniel Convery. Jacob passed away on May 19, 2025 at the age of 38 in Virigina Beach, Virigina. Jake was a dedicated naval airman, loving son, brother, uncle and loyal friend. Jake is survived by his parents, Earl and Susan Convery, his sisters Laura (Ron) Brown and Angela (David) Horgan, and his niece Everly Brown and nephews Logan and Caleb Horgan, and many family and friends. He will be remembered for his strength of character, his infectious laugh, smile and his authentic and selflessness.
Jacob Daniel Convery was born on January 6, 1987, in Warren, Michigan. Jake grew up with a strong moral compass, a kind heart, and unshakeable desire to make a difference. From a young age he was the source of light and joy to those around him – always quick with a laugh, a silly antic, helping hand, or words of encouragement.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy with pride and purpose, determined to serve his country and purse his dream of naval aviation. He completed bootcamp at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, in 2023 graduating at the top of his class receiving the Navy Club of the United States Military Excellence Award, nominated by Recruit Division Commanders and a board of senior military personal for being an outstanding example of military bearing. He then went to Aviation Electrician's Mate Technical Training in Pensacola, Florida. Assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 31, Jake's time in uniform, though brief, left a powerful legacy. He was respected by his shipmates and supervisors for his integrity, humility, and drive. He carried himself with purpose, but never lost his warmth. Whether he was working on aircraft or helping a fellow sailor through a tough day, he led with heart.
More than anything, Jake treasured time with his family and friends. He would drop everything for a phone call home, never missed a holiday if he could help it, and always found time for long conversations with his parents, laughs with his sisters, nature hikes with his friends and shenanigans with his niece and nephews. His family was his foundation, and he never took that love for granted.
Jake was the kind of person who made people better simply by being near them-an old soul with a gentle spirit, a loyal heart, an infectious personality and a smile that could light up any room. Jacob Daniel Convery lived a life of honor, compassion, and inspiration. Though his journey ended far too soon, the love he gave, the example he set, and the lives he touched will live on forever.
Funeral services for Jake will be on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Heritage Church in Sterling Height at 12 Noon. He will lie in state starting at 11:00 am until time of service. Family and friends may visit with Jakes family on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 2:00 - 8:00 pm at Wasik Funeral Home, Shelby Twp. (49150 Schoenherr Rd). Jake will be laid to rest in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI.
Fair winds and following seas, Jacob. We have the watch.
