Jacob J. Fretwell, fondly known as Big Jake, was born to Lewis and Muriel (Beck) Fretwell, on January 15, 1941, in Bay Springs, Florida.
He was a retired electrician supervisor for Escambia County School Board as well as an extremely talented musician. He played for numerous organizations throughout his lifetime such as entertainment benefits parties for Parents without Partners, Fraternal Order of the Elks, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Moose Lodge, Sandy Sansing, surrounding military bases, Lillian Community Club, and Am Vets Post #292, and other community service organizations around the area. Furthermore, he was a regular donor to Northwest Florida Blood Center.
Jacob, departed from this world on September 27, 2024, at the age of 83, surrounded by family and friends.
Jacob is preceded in death by his Mother, Father, one son, brothers Johnny, Bennie, Lewis Jr., and William A. Fretwell, sisters, Laurie Muriel, Estheree, Vicki Lynn Fretwell.
Jacob is survived by his girlfriend, Sally Reynolds, one daughter, Jayleen Fretwell, two grandsons who he treated as sons, Jonathan Fretwell and Randy East. He is also survived by his brothers, Ricky Fretwell Sr., and Stevie Fretwell, his sisters, Bonnie King, and Nicey Rolins, as well as numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
A pillar of strength and a beacon of light, his absence leaves a void in our hearts. He leaves a legacy which will be hard to match. To commemorate his remarkable life, a visitation will be held at Pensacola Memorial Gardens (Next to Five Flags Speedway) on October 3, 2024 at 9:30 am with services to follow at 10:30am. The family asks for privacy at the graveside.
