Jacob Martin Obituary
Mr. Martin was born May 13, 1932, in Hagerstown, MD, and was the son of Leroy and Ida Martin. Jake and His wife, JoAnn, deceased, moved to New Market, VA in 1977.
Jake, although only educated to the 6th grade, was a very successful businessman. He had a 10-year career with the Homelite chainsaw company setting up accounts such asJ.C. Penny, Dart Drug, and Hechingers, and many other independent dealers. He and JoAnn went on to start 3 successful businesses in the Valley. They started Valley Landscape Service in 1978, Superior Sealing & Maintenance, an asphalt paving and maintenance service in 1988 which is still in operation, run by his daughter Jacquline, and Son-in-law Wade Seekford, and First Choice Transport Service, a wheelchair and ambulance transport service in 2000, which is also still in operation under different ownership.
Jake loved his family and was married to JoAnn for 61 years and had 2 children. He had 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Jake was a member of the New Market Seventh Day Adventist church in New Market, VA
Jake was survived by his daughter Jacquline Seekford; and son-in-law, Wade Seekford of Timberville, VA; a son, Brad Martin, and daughter-in-law Regina Andrade of Germantown, MD; grandson Chad Seekford Bodewig and wife Ashley of Waynesboro, VA; grandson, Josh Seekford and his wife, Jessi, and great-grandchildren, Cameron, Gage, and Jade of Timberville, VA; granddaughter, Courtney Feltman and her husband, Ryan Feltman, and great-grandchildren Cash and Kaia of Herndon, VA; grandson, Jacob Seekford, and great-granddaughter, Adalynn of Timberville, VA. He is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Martin, of Hagerstown, MD the sole living sibling out of 11 children.
There will be a private interment. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
