Jacob Lowell Millett
December 5, 1997 - December 20, 2024
Jacob Lowell Millett was born on December 5,1997 in Provo, Utah. He passed away on Friday, December 20th, 2024 at the age of 27. He is the firstborn of triplets, Rebecca Noel Millett (deceased) and Kaitlin (Katie) Millett Agle.
Jacob grew up in
Orem, Utah. He attended Windsor Elementary, Canyon View Junior High, and graduated from Timpanogos High School in 2016. Jacob attended Utah State University on a presidential scholarship studying in the field of engineering.
Jacob was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a faithful priesthood holder and was diligent in fulfilling his priesthood duties. Jacob held leadership positions in all of his priesthood quorums. He truly enjoyed the brotherhood of the priesthood and giving service to others.
Jacob had many talents, abilities, and interests. He sang bass in the Timpanogos High School choir. Jacob played piano, violin in the orchestra and percussion in the symphony. Jacob was also a member of the Debate Team and thrived in intellectual conversation. He was drawn to games that involved strategy and intellectual activities. Jacob was rarely beaten in Catan or Risk.
Jacob played basketball, baseball and soccer, where he excelled as goalkeeper. Jacob loved the outdoors and went on many hikes and camping trips in the Uinta Mountains and in southern Utah. He especially loved rappelling and hiking through slot canyons. Jacob was a skilled shotgun shooter and always scored very high in the family skeet shoot on Thanksgiving. Jacob was a member of the Historical European Longswording Club at UVU and enjoyed customizing his equipment. Jacob could be described as a true renaissance man.
Jacob participated in many local science fairs, displaying his in-depth understanding of and passion for bridge-building, structural integrity of shapes, and sustainability through the use of bamboo. His innovative projects always impressed, winning at the State level multiple years.
Jacob was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and earned his Eagle Scout Award at age 14. For his Eagle Project he organized and coordinated the landscaping of the Orem City wellhouse on 800 South and 900 East. He loved the variety of learning opportunities available through scouting and earned multiple merit badges, patches and other awards.
Jacob enjoyed traveling with his family, especially to historical sites. He visited sites such as Washington DC, Boston, Philadelphia, Gettysburg, New York, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco and Hawaii. Because of his love of science, one of his favorite trips was to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to see the solar eclipse of 2017 in its totality.
Jacob was very intelligent and loved learning. He studied various subjects including engineering, politics, mathematics, history, city planning, architecture, economics, tech music theory and computer science. If you ever wanted to know the meaning of a word you could simply ask Jacob, he was a walking dictionary. He loved reading books and learning from various sources. He had his own private library of books that he collected on a variety of topics. He was a gifted speaker and teacher and taught gospel doctrine with clarity and truth. He enjoyed involving others in his learning process and teaching them what he had learned.
Jacob was very hard working and driven to set goals and achieve them. He always gave his best effort in everything he did. Even with his driven nature, he had a certain ease about him. Jacob was calm and very methodical about how he approached life. He always had faith that things would work out if he continued to work hard and persevere.
Jacob was a good friend to all, he had a quick and easy smile. Everyone liked being around Jacob and benefitted from both his wisdom and his humor. Jacob had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. He loved laughing with others. Jacob also had a gift for making everyone around him feel good. He was very aware of other people and excited to serve them. Often Jacob would go to the store for one thing and come back with your favorite candy bar just when you needed it.
Jacob fought a long and difficult battle with heart disease, but he rarely complained and never gave up the fight. He was always very respectful of and grateful for his health care workers. He was always optimistic that he would win his battle and move forward with his life.
We are proud of Jacob for his strength and courage during the challenges he faced in life. He is our quiet giant. We are grateful for his faithful example and cheerful nature. We consider it a privilege and blessing to have known and loved Jacob. We miss him, and we will love him eternally. Jacob's mission now continues on the other side of the veil.
Jacob was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lyal and Mildred Millett, Lowell and Sandra Berg, and by his sister Rebecca Noel Millett. Jacob is survived by his parents, Kenneth James Millett and LaNae Berg Millett, his sister Kaitlin (Katie) Millett Agle (Nathan), his brother, Joseph Lyal Millett, and sister, Sarah Elizabeth Millett.
A celebration of Jacob's life will be held at the Windsor Stake Center (60 East 1600 North,
Orem, Utah) on Saturday, December 28th, at noon. Viewings, also held at the stake center, will be on Friday, December 27th, from 6pm to 8pm, and again on Saturday from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. We invite all to attend with us to celebrate the life of Jacob Millett. Jacob will be buried in the Midway City cemetery next to his sister, Rebecca, and his grandparents, Lowell and Sandra Berg.
