Alice Angeline "Angie" Olcott Childs
Our dear mother, sister, grandmother, and friend left her mortal life and returned to her Heavenly Father on August 24, 2025 at the age of 87. Angie was born on April 3, 1938 to John Howard Olcott and Alice Joy Hansen Olcott in Richfield, Utah. Angie is the oldest of four siblings, Alice Angeline Childs, Amy Andrea Bushnell, Annette Aleithe DuBravac, and Adrene Amber Olcott. She is survived by them and her three sons and their wives, John (Bonnie), Chandler (Sondra), and Clark (Aimee). Angie is the mother of three, grandmother to 16, and great grandmother to 18.
Her upbringing made her strong. She lived in Kimberly, Utah for a summer while her dad worked as a miner. Angie remembered the summer they lived in a tent in the Carbon County area while her dad mined for coal. In her teenage years, Angie worked in Sanpete County for a season butchering turkeys, and for the rest of her life she hated turkeys and chickens never to "knowingly" eat them again.
Angie graduated from Richfield High School in 1956 and went on to cosmetology school in Salt Lake City. After completing cosmetology school, she took a job working in a salon in Salt Lake City and remained there for the next 3-4 years before moving back to Richfield and working there as a beautician. From her parents, she had learned the value of work and being thrifty and after years of work and saving, she bought her first car (a 1963 Ford Falcon) paying cash.
About the age of 25, she met her future husband, Gilbert Robert "Bob" Childs, who was the manager of the Richfield Safeway grocery store at the time. They were married on August 10, 1964. Bob had been previously married and had five children (Lorna Trogstad, Carl Raymond Childs, Joyce Ann Patten, Alan Rowley Childs, and Robert Kent Childs). Angie and Bob then had three sons of their own. Angie and Bob were sealed in the St. George Temple on October 12, 1968.
Angie was an incredibly supportive and loving mother and wife. She supported Bob in successfully starting Pack-A-Part Automotive Distribution (from 1971 to approximately 1976) and running their auto parts store, Bumper-to-Bumper Auto Parts, in West Valley City from 1977 to 1985 when she and Bob sold the business. Over the years, Angie held various callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including many in Primary and Young Women's. She also enjoyed serving as an ordinance worker in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. Bob passed away on October 12, 2001, leaving Angie one of the biggest challenges of her life, widowhood for 24 years. During that time, she found purpose and meaning in volunteering twice a week at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center up until the Covid-19 pandemic suspended volunteer services in 2020.
She loved spending time as a family, especially going on fishing, hunting, motorcycle riding, and boating trips. At heart, she was a girly girl and loved dolls, quilts, stuffed animals, and especially flowers. Her favorite color was pink.
Angie lived a great life and enjoyed good health and a sharp mind throughout her life. We are grateful she took care of herself so well, so we could have her with us for so long. We joyously celebrate her life, love, faith, virtue, and goodness. We are grateful for the many gifts and talents God blessed her with that also bless all of us. She leaves us a rich image of love, faith, hope, and charity. We will honor her forever and miss her dearly until we meet again at glorious family reunion in the life hereafter, which I am sure Bob has already planned.
We offer our deepest gratitude to the compassionate nurses, CNAs, and staff at the Covington Senior Living Center in Lehi and all the beautiful friendships we formed there. We also want to thank the kind nurses, therapists, and chaplins at Enhabit Hospice and Renew Hospice that served our family so well.
A funeral celebration of Angie's life will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 545 South 800 East Orem Utah. A viewing will be held in her honor from 10:30-11:30 AM followed by a funeral celebration at 12:00 PM in the chapel. After which, there will be a graveside ceremony at the Orem City Cemetery preceding interment.
