It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jacob "Jake" Moss, of Livonia, who unexpectedly entered eternal life under difficult circumstances on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the age of 45.
Born on July 15, 1979, in Wayne, Michigan, to Daniel "Mike" and the late Janice (Skindzier) Moss, Jacob grew up in Westland, where he developed a strong sense of duty and service. After earning his diploma from Wayne-Westland Schools, he attended ITT Tech in Canton before beginning a distinguished career of service to his country and community.
Jacob proudly served as a U.S. Marine, and finishing his military career at Arlington National Cemetery, he earned an honorable discharge and carried forward a generational legacy of service that began with his grandfather. Following his military service, he entered the law enforcement field, graduating from the Police Academy and joining the Detroit Police Department. His leadership and dedication led him to become a highly decorated officer and an integral member of the Special Response Team (SRT). His colleagues knew him by his code name, "Smash," a testament to his strength, tenacity, and unwavering commitment to protecting what was right.
Though a warrior in service, Jacob was also a loving family man. He married the love of his life, Eva M. (Warnecke), on August 16, 2002, in Toledo, and together they built a family filled with love and commitment. As a father, Jacob shared a special bond with his children, Sean and Kailynn. Whether playing video games or rough housing in the yard, his family was his greatest pride. He lived by the principles of God, Family, and Duty.
Jacob was an outdoorsman, hunter, and avid bodybuilder. He was also a passionate motorcyclist who found solace riding his Indian Chieftain.
In addition to his beloved wife Eva, Jacob leaves behind his cherished children, Sean and Kailynn; his father, Michael Moss; his sisters, Amy Moss and Kristina "Kristy" (Paul) Lacy; as well as many close friends, fellow officers, and members of his extended family. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Janice Moss, and Eva's grandmother, Beatrice Foster, whom he deeply admired.
Jacob's life was one of service, love, and honor. Though he is gone far too soon, his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Family and friends may gather for visitation at Bethel Baptist Church, 29475 Six Mile Rd., (just W of Middlebelt Road), Livonia, on Wednesday, October 23, from 12 Noon-6 pm. The Funeral Ceremony will conclude the visiting hours at 6 pm.
Private interment will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.
Those who wish to further honor the memory of Jacob may do so by means of a contribution to the Wounded Warrior Project.
