Jacob L. Schleis
November 14, 1933 - October 19, 2024
Jacob L. Schleis, age 90, Kewaunee, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024. He was born on November 14, 1933, to the late Jacob and Frances (Konop) Schleis. He married Delores M. Steinhorst on June 8, 1955, at Holy Rosary Church. She preceded him in death on July 31, 2022.
Jacob was a skilled carpenter. He worked for Joe Stodola, and Siegmund/Schleis before starting his own business, Schleis Builders Inc. All of these were full-time jobs that he managed, all while running the family dairy farm and raising a family. Jacob played a significant role in the building of the World's Largest Grandfather Clock in Kewaunee.
Jacob enjoyed playing cribbage or any card game, dancing, fishing, hunting, gardening, and traveling. He also loved making rag rugs with his wife, Delores, by his side. His greatest passion was spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids. Jacob had a very strong faith and was a parishioner at Holy Rosary Church in Kewaunee. He was committed to and enjoyed watching EWTN - Mother Angelica.
Jacob is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Pardowsky; two sons and daughters-in-law: Rodney and Julie Schleis, Peter and Terri Schleis all of Kewaunee; thirteen grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren.
Jacob was preceded in death by his wife, Delores; his parents Jacob and Frances Schleis; mother-in-law and father-in-law Joseph and Pauline Steinhorst; brothers Louis (Violet) Schleis, Henry (Gertrude) Schleis; sisters Elizabeth (Virgil) Michaels, Delores (Walter) Poehls, Adela (George) Wotachek, Rita (Emil) Lukes, Sister Theresa Schleis; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Wilbert and Mary Steinhorst; daughter-in-law Diane Schleis; two sons-in-law Mark Salzsieder and Mike Pardowsky.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at Holy Rosary Church, Kewaunee. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 am with Msgr. Jim Dillenburg and Father George Daniel officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. Kinnard Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family.
