Jackie was born January 8, 1937 in Hondo, Texas, to Henry & Dora Saathoff Nehr. She grew up working on the family farm & ranch, which is still in the family today. She graduated as Salutatorian from D’Hanis High School in D’Hanis, Texas in 1955. She played bass drum in the band and enjoyed photography. She attended Southwest Texas State in San Marcus and then graduated from Lamar State College in 1965.

She met Claude at First United Methodist Church of Hondo, when the older ladies of the church set them up while he was serving as choir director at the church. Claude was serving in the United States Air Force, and stationed at the Hondo Air Force Base. They were married August 4, 1956. They celebrated 57 years of marriage before Claude passed away in December 2013.

Jackie enjoyed several different careers in her life. She worked in the Sears Parts Department, was a Home Management Aide at the Methodist Children’s Home in Waco, a Real Estate Agent in Harker Heights/Killeen, and a substitute teacher in multiple school districts including Santa Anna ISD and Kerens ISD.

The things that brought her the most joy in life were being, a wife, a mom, grandma, great grandma, sister, aunt, and friend to everyone she met. Her love language was cooking. She loved cooking for her family, and church family. She was known for making and giving away Friendship Cakes and all kinds of other baked goodies. Through the years she loved to garden, sew, paint, and make arts & crafts. She enjoyed antiques and learning the history and stories behind them. She also loved serving in ministry with her husband, Claude, and enjoyed many years of hosting Christmas Open Houses for the congregations where they served.

Jackie was preceded in death, by her husband, Claude; her parents Henry & Dora; her mother and father in-law, Ralph & Edith Davison; brother, Sherrill Nehr; brother and sister-in-laws, Merrill (Donna) Davison, Paul (Ila) Davison, and Thomas Elliott.
