Jacqueline (Jackie) Marie Pratte Lowrie was a fascinating, confounding, beautiful, intelligent, talented, loving, and complicated human being. She was born on June 8th, 1942 in Hollywood, CA, and she passed away peacefully at home in her sleep on August 9th, 2025. Her wonderfully loving husband, Herb, preceded her in death in 2010.
Jackie was affectionately known as Grandma, Nana, and Nana Books, as she was a lifelong reader who loved gifting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren books for birthdays and Christmas.
Not only was reading one of her passions, Jackie had a knack for writing as well. Up until her passing, Jackie had been working on a collection of short stories about all the dogs she owned throughout the years and how they shaped her life. This project comes as no surprise to her loved ones as Jackie was a devoted dog lover whose life was never complete without a canine companion.
She was a music lover and a talented soprano. As a young woman, she worked as a lounge singer, and her vocal gifts allowed her the opportunity to perform “Ave Maria” with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. In her later years you would often hear her singing along with Neil Diamond, Willie Nelson, and The Beatles.
Professionally, Jackie worked as a journalist reporting for the Ennis Press when she was a young mother. Her later career turned toward real estate and property management.
Lastly, as a huge Dallas Cowboys fan, Jackie was always loud and proud of “her boys.”
She is survived by her three children, Mark Atwood of Dallas, Laurie Sellers and husband Carl Sellers of Denton, and Jason Atwood of Burleson; her seven grandchildren, Cierra Atwood and spouse Leo Martinez of Denton, Les Sellers and spouse April Sellers of Carrollton, Michelle Richards and spouse Jim Richards of Denton, Craig Sellers and spouse Molly Yocum of Denton, and Nix Atwood, Kendall Atwood, and Elizabeth Atwood of Burleson; and her six great-grandchildren, Milo Martinez and Chloe Martinez of Denton, Nomi Sellers and Jude Sellers of Carrollton, James Richards and Vivian Richards of Denton, and step-son Kevin Lowrie and spouse Tina Lowrie of Garland.
