Jacqueline Elaine (Maull) McGee better known as "Lady J" was born on December 2 1948, in
Wilmington, Delaware, to the late Joseph Edward Maull and Edith May Maull.
In
Milford, DE on March 3, 2023, she unexpectedly passed from this life to her heavenly home.
She was raised in
Lewes, Delaware. In 1966, she graduated from William C. Jason High School in
Georgetown, Delaware, and went on to earn a technical certificate from Liberty School. After graduation, she landed a job at IBM, where she was the only black woman working and excelled. She eventually left IBM to pursue a career in retail, becoming the first black woman buyer for Hess's department store in
Allentown, Pennsylvania. During her time in Allentown, she met Odell McGee, who was enlisted in the United States Army. They decided to relocate to Fort Dix, New Jersey, and then to
Willingboro, New Jersey, where they married in July 1980.
O'Dell was deployed to Germany, so they packed up the kids and traveled to Frankfurt while there, she furthered her education at the University of Maryland European division. She made history yet again when she became the first black woman to manage an AFFES exchange store in Giessen, Germany. In 1987, the family returned to Delaware and settled down.
Lady J was adored by her family and friends, and she always welcomed you with a smile.
Lady J loved to sing, and you could often find her in the kitchen cooking and singing as if she were performing a concert. Every year, in her high school days, she was chosen for the All State Delaware Choir and in her adult years she was the lead singer for the Jesse Flower Band.
Her favorite pastime was reading, and she had over 100 books stacked throughout her home. Stephen King was one her favorite authors, she has every book he's ever written. She couldn't wait until a Stephen King movie came out, she would want you to sit there and watch it so she can tell you what was wrong with the movie compared to the book.
She also enjoyed cooking, fashion, and decorating, as well as her plants; she had a green thumb, but above all else, she adored her family and would do anything for them.
Lady J was preceded by her parents, Joseph Edward Maull Sr. and Edith Maull, as well as her siblings, Joseph Edward Maull Jr. and Lionel Drew Maull.
Lady J will be remembered in the hearts of her four children: Torrance (Monique) McGee of
