Jacquelyn "Jackie" P. Mayer

Jacquelyn “Jackie” P. Mayer (nee Patton), of Delhi, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by her immediate family on Sunday October 12, 2025 at 79 years old.

Born on November 6, 1945, in Charleston, West Virginia. Jackie was the third of nine Patton children born to the late Commodore and Norma Patton who preceded her in death. She was a dear sister and is survived by all her siblings Maryrita ”Cissie”(Howie) Knachel, Mary McNally, Marcie (Don) Layden, Tommy(Fran) Patton, Patty(John) Peters, Christy (Rich) Boyle, Joe Patton (Betty Fluharty) and Rita (Will) Cobb. Also survived by her many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Jackie grew up in Charleston, West Virginia only to leave to attend Mount St. Joseph College. Jackie was a stranger to no one and a friend to everyone. When she talked to you, she made you feel like the most important person in the room and wanted to know every detail about you. Therefore, it only seems fitting that she met her beloved Jack, who she was married to for 53 years before his untimely death in 2021, at a ‘Muskie and Mountie’ college mixer their freshman year of college. Jackie always carried the unofficial titles of social committee chair and social butterfly; wearing those badges proudly and with honor.

Jack and Jackie later married and settled in Delhi to raise their family. Loving Mother of Scott (Kimberly) Mayer, Nichole (Mark) Eckert and Marcie (Rocco) Samuele. Devoted grandmother “Nana” of Alexander and Patrick Mayer, Drew and Emma Eckert, Bruno and Ronan Samuele.

Jackie spent her career in nursing, first as in intensive cardiac care nurse at St. Francis which later merged with St. George Hospital and then transitioning to teaching at the Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing. She loved this new role within the nursing field so much that she went back to school while raising her family to earn her Master’s degree in order to become a professor at Good Sam. She worked as a level 1 professor for 30 years before retiring in 2013. She was the professor that all first-year students feared having because of her high expectations; many did not get past her. But in their nursing education, they realized Jackie was also the professor that they were grateful they had because she made them a better nurse because of these high expectations.

After retirement Jackie continued her role as social committee chair and participated in her bridge group, book club, movie clubs, women’s investment group, her theater club, her antique business with her sisters Marcie and Rita, traveling and of course singing and dancing and spending time with her grandchildren.

Jackie was a mentor to many and inspired by all. She had an enormous lifelong friend group and was the foundation of the family both immediate and extended. She spent her life caring for others and celebrating all things great and small. She will truly be missed by many.

Visitation at MEYER FUNERAL HOME, 5864 Bridgetown Rd, on Monday, November 10, 2025 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Dominic, 4551 Delhi Pk., on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at 10:00 AM.
