Jacquelyn Hailey Marrow

Jacquelyn Hailey Marrow was called to eternal Heavenly rest on Sunday morning, January 5, 2025, in her home surrounded by her caring children. She was born on March 13, 1938, to the late George Carter and Gussie Judkins in James City County, Virginia.
She attended Bruton Heights School in Williamsburg, Virginia. In her youth, she was baptized and joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she was a dedicated and faithful member until her health began to decline. Her church family will always remember her as a quiet woman with a big smile who always adorned her stylish hats every Sunday.
"Jackie," as she was affectionally called by her family, friends, and co-workers, was employed as a cook at Hardee's in Lightfoot, retiring after more than twenty years of dedicated service.
On January 29, 1954, she married Wardell Hailey. This union was blessed with nine children: five girls and four boys.
On September 12, 1987, she married Russell Braxton. This union blessed her with three stepchildren and twenty-four years of marital bliss until his passing in 2011.
On August 25, 2018, she married Rev. George Marrow Sr., (Pastor Emeritus of New Quarter Baptist Church, Williamsburg, Va.) This marriage brought her two additional stepchildren. She enjoyed fellowshipping with her New Quarter Baptist Church family.
Jackie did not drive, but on any given Saturday morning, she would be found doing the one thing she loved, "going to yard sales". She would have her husband, Russell, drive her every Saturday morning, rain or shine, from community to community looking for items to purchase. Her home was full of her collection of black dolls, which adorned her living room area. Throughout other parts of her home, she showcased her many black figurine collections. She was a gardener and loved her plants and flowers. She enjoyed cooking for her family and her friends. On many special occasions, she would cook on Sundays for her former pastor and his wife, Rev. Wilbert and Adline Warren, whom she adored. Not only did she invite her former Pastor, but she also invited the Shiloh Deacons and other members to join in on the Sunday dinner in her home.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; a sister, Velma Dabney; brothers, Don Carter, Lynn Carter, and Ronnie Carter; daughter, Elnora Rhodall; sons, Don Hailey and Darrin Hailey; sisters-in-law, Pearl Bartlett and Gladys Armstead; and stepdaughter Janie Braxton.
She leaves to cherish memories with her children, Joan Hailey-Crump, Brenda Black (Anthony), Linda Hailey, and Cleo Hailey-Johnson; sons, David Hailey and Bryant Hailey (Denise); twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; sisters, Teresa Piggott and Lois Jones; a brother, Louis Carter (Tywanna); sisters-in-law, Mildred Morris (Walter), Rachel Shearn (Ben), Sandra Trower and Jacqueline Wallace; brothers-in-law, Herman Braxton (Dianne) and Reginald Braxton; devoted aunt, Hazel Pierce; step-children, Joyce Braxton (Hampton), Roslin Braxton, Michael Marrow (Cleveland) and George Marrow Jr.; bonus daughters, Roselee Armstead (Phil) and Carolyn Cary (John); bonus sons, Carlton Morris and Phillip McCray; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Hailey; special friends, Frances Roberts and Lewis & Christine James; and a host of other loving relatives, and many caring friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 13, 2025, at Shiloh Baptist Church. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Marrow may be viewed in the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Monday.
