Jacquelyn Smart Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Eggers Funeral Home - Boiling Springs on Feb. 23, 2026.
Jacquelyn "Jackie" Edgerton Smart, 84, of Chesnee, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 22, 2026. She was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 13, 1941 to the late Wayne Weeks Edgerton and Melba Duckett Edgerton.

Jackie graduated from RS Central High School where she was a standout basketball player. She attended Appalachian State and was on the men's swim team and later transferred to Gardner-Webb University. She received a degree from Cecil's Business College. Jackie was a faithful member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church and shared her love of music by singing in the choir. Jackie found great joy in cooking and baking for those she loved, especially her grandchildren, who affectionately called her "MiMi". She was famous for her pound cakes, banana nut bread, and peanut butter fudge. If you ever went to visit, you would most definitely leave with some sweet treat in hand! Jackie leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, and devotion to her family.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Lauren Tracey Duty; son, James Anthony "Tony" Smart (Kelly); sister, Beverly Padgett (Jerry); grandchildren, James "Jay" Robert Smart (Cody Patterson), Morgan Elizabeth Duty, Amanda "Amy" Lynn Smart, Regan Victoria Duty, Abigail "Abby" Smart, and Todd Carder (Amy); as well as a bonus grandson, Tim Stacey; great grandson, Aaron Carder; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, James "Jim" Reid Smart.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 10:30AM at Boiling Springs First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service, from 9:30AM until 10:30AM. Burial will follow the service at Springhill Memorial Gardens in Chesnee, South Carolina.
