JAMES HOWARD VAUGHN, 96, beloved husband of the late Frances Carolyn Lyons Vaughn, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2026 at home with his family by his side.

Born in Greenwood, SC, James was the son of the late Otis and Fannie Mae Corley Vaughn. He spent his formative years in Greenwood before moving to Aiken in the mid-1950s to work at the Savannah River Site. He enjoyed a successful career, retiring as a supervisor in the E & I Maintenance department at DuPont. James proudly served in the Army National Guard for 25 years.

A founding member of Trinity United Methodist Church, James remained an active participant in his faith throughout his life. In more recent years, he found a welcoming community at Whole Life Ministries in Augusta.

James is survived by his son, Larry (Gail) Vaughn of Aiken; his daughter, Lori (Ray) Fischer of Mount Pleasant; and his beloved grandchildren, Brittany Fischer, Kayla Vaughn, and Kirk (Mandy) Sheppard. He also treasured his great-grandchildren, Pressley and Porter Rhodes; Beckham, Addy, and Emmie Sheppard; and Matthew Butler. James was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 64 years, Carolyn.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers who provided love and support during James's lifetime. Special appreciation is given to friends Rich Hancock and Julian Johnson, as well as the staff at United Energy Workers Healthcare for their unwavering assistance. Additionally, gratitude is extended to the Christian Heritage Church family for their prayers, along with Gentiva Hospice and Hospice Care of South Carolina for their compassionate care.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday afternoon, March 11th, at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Hodges, SC, with the Reverend Stephen Phillips officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Tri-Development Center (aikentdc.org) .
