Jamelia M. Lynch, of Beckley, age 83, died on October 30, 2023. She was born on August 24, 1940, eldest of eight children born to Charles A. and Alice M. Lynch. She was predeceased by brothers Patrick C. Lynch, Paul J. Lynch and Charles A. Lynch, Jr. She is survived by her sister Helen M. Clemens of Beckley, brothers Michael J. Lynch and Forest H. Lynch of Beckley, and brother John T. Lynch of Brewster, MA. She is also survived by several nephews and nieces.
Jamelia was known throughout the Beckley area as an exemplary school teacher. She was a graduate of Concord College and was awarded a Master’s Degree from West Virginia University. She began her career, at age 19, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic School in Beckley where she taught the second grade for 12 years. She continued her career with the Raleigh County public school system. Jamelia taught at Central Elementary and Stanaford Elementary where she primarily functioned as a reading specialist. Throughout her life she encountered and interacted with numerous students who respected and admired her. Jamelia made a positive difference in their lives.
Jamelia was totally committed to her family. She gave of herself generously to her parents, to her siblings and to her many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Her generosity had no bounds. She made numerous sacrifices for the extended family.
Her Catholic religion was of utmost importance to her and she was faithful to the Church for her entire life.
She was a loyal daughter, a caring and loving sibling, an exceptional teacher, a faithful member of the Catholic Church, a trusted resource for her colleagues and an exemplary human being who will be deeply missed by all those who knew her and loved her.
Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., followed by recitation of the Rosary, on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Calfee Funeral Home, 800 South Oakwood Avenue, Beckley, WV. A Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 6, 2023, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 626 South Oakwood Avenue, Beckley, WV with Father Leonard Smith officiating. Mass will be followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Park, 1925 Harper Road, Beckley, WV. The family will then receive guests at a reception and luncheon in the Parish Hall of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
